Re: 2013 Rankings
LOL at the email I just got from #101 Pacific McGeorge:
"The March 15 deadline to apply for admission to University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law is only two days away! I hope you'll apply so you don't miss your chance to attend one of the top 100 law schools in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report."
I guess they didn't get the memo about getting bumped last night!

Also liked UVA's 9% acceptance rate. Looks like their YP/ED reliance has paid dividends.
Lulz, no joke. No surprise that they have the 3rd-lowest 25th GPA among the T14 and the 2nd lowest 25th LSAT. This pretty much corroborates all of the "ED UVA" posts and explains their artificially inflated medians.

Re: 2013 Rankings
Also keep in mind that low and high scores are thrown out and respondents can leave blank responses if they don't know enough about a school. Blank responses are not counted towards the assessment score. So, in reality, it could be only a few dozen lawyers/judges that make up 15% of the a school's ranking.apollo2015 wrote:I wonder what the demographics were in terms of who was chosen to be surveyed, and in terms of who chose to respond.InGoodFaith wrote:So, 15% of the score was based on the opinion of 90 people across the country? Re: Predicting 2013 Rankings
You should be more concerned with the "Law Firm" rankings of schools rather than the USnews. Last year Cornell got a 4.5/5 tying Duke, NW, and Chicago for #8...I think the new law firm rankings come out this month as wellChucky21 wrote:how will this affect Cornell's nyc biglaw placement...?

It does not impact my decision, but does this give anyone considering UT pause?

Re: 2013 Rankings
Not really, because UT was really always kind of in that range. Everyone I talked to ultimately told me that, even for Texas, UT was better than the lower T-14, but that, at least for big law, MVP are a better bet.
Oh, huge caveat: even cost with scholarships. That's actually another thing that worries me about UT. The instate tuition has been shooting up like crazy, and I don't trust it to stay low, so I wouldn't want to go without a scholarship.

It shouldn't because UT has always been a UCLA/Vandy/USC peer and probably will be for the foreseeable future.emkay625 wrote:It does not impact my decision, but does this give anyone considering UT pause?

Re: 2013 Rankings
So overall did we see medians drop as expected (given the 15% or so drop in test takers/ applicants)?
Are these even the new medians, though? I mean the cycle isn't over yet, so are these the medians from last year, or just what they have reported thus far?

Maybe, but it wouldn't make any meaningful difference in much else. UT will still be a UCLA/Vandy/USC peer, which was my original point.minnbills wrote:haha wouldn't a higher expenditure/student figure raise their ranking?chimp wrote:

Numbers are based on last cycle.
