MODERATORS: Could we start an LLM forum?
Hey TLS Moderators:
I have a lot of LLM friends here at my law school and I was looking to give some advice to prospective LLM students and I realized that I don't think TLS has an LLM section of the website.
I think an LLM section would be great. I also think that asking for an article about the decision to get an LLM for foreign students would be extremely helpful, and soliciting such an article would be a great addition to the website.
Thanks!

Re: MODERATORS: Could we start an LLM forum?
What's a guy gotta do to get an answer from a moderator?
Ok, fine. I'm a 0L planning on going to Thomas Jefferson on a 5k/yr scholly contingent on top 25%. Planning to transfer to Stanford because I am going to study a lot.
Thoughts, people?

Seems like a great idea to me. The LLM part.

The forum would need a total of one post:

This seems like a gross oversimplification for foreign students.Antilles Haven wrote:The forum would need a total of one post:

Also the part about how one qualifies to get an LLM in tax from NYU, Georgetown, or Florida.Kabuo wrote:This seems like a gross oversimplification for foreign students.Antilles Haven wrote:The forum would need a total of one post:

Graet idea since this is the main lawschool forum on the internet
edit. Plus you can't search "LL.M" because is just 3 letters

Use a wildcard (i.e. search for *LLM or LLM*)fl0 wrote:Graet idea since this is the main lawschool forum on the internet

The National Jurist (a magazine for law students) October 2010 issue (Volume 20, No. 2) is a great place to start if interested in LLM programs.

Re: MODERATORS: Could we start an LLM forum?
Yes, I am talking about LLM's for international students, not LLM's for Americans.
The calculation about whether to get an LLM as a foreign lawyer/law student is extremely complicated and involves weighing a number of different criteria including cost, career goals, where you are in your career, how you can find funding, what to do with family, etc etc etc.
I just want to be able to point friends who are lawyers in other countries to a place that discusses these issues.

If you want an answer from a mod, generally PMing is better than starting a random thread and then demanding to know why we haven't answered you yet. I'm not opposed to the idea of an LLM forum, but you seem like a pushy jackass.Regionality wrote:What's a guy gotta do to get an answer from a moderator?

You mean to say that you don't read every single post in every single thread posted on TLS? What are we paying you for?

Yea, start the LLM forum, I will set up a topic about how to get a LLM in SPACE LAW. As a space expert, I predict that Space law will be growing field as soon as President Gingrich launches the first moon colony. Many people on the moon will need help writing wills and dealing with satellite crash tort actions.
I am also an expert in international animal rights, and can provide information on those LLMs.
Cheers

(In all seriousness, what SBL said - generally, PMing us is the best way to get a quick answer. Interesting idea.)

Jeeze, harsh. I assure you I am not. I don't know who moderators are or who runs this thing, so I wasn't sure how to PM the person in charge...and as it turns out the moderators DID find my thread after just a few days...but thanks for the kind words.SBL wrote:If you want an answer from a mod, generally PMing is better than starting a random thread and then demanding to know why we haven't answered you yet. Would you call me on the phone and talk to me that way? PM me for my phone number and I'd love to hear you talk to me like that in person. Certainly as a moderator on this website (I guess you're paid?) you stand by your word and are willing to defend the way you treat people on here. I wouldn't request this with any random person posting on this thread, but it looks like you make this your passion in life-- I would hope you're proud of how you do it. I think you overreacted harshly.

Re: MODERATORS: Could we start an LLM forum?
And absent whatever has devolved on this thread, I still think an LLM thread for foreign students would be great, perhaps with a sticky at the top with a well-written article by an LLM who went through the decision making process and can provide good insight into what must be weighed when assessing a year-long, $75k decision.
Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

I actually think we're going to go ahead and implement your suggestion (the one about making an LLM subforum, not the one where I call you and make fun of you over the phone... that one I'm passing on.)Regionality wrote:Jeeze, harsh.
