SMU or OU?

Postby kbeight » Tue Jan 17, 2012 7:38 pm

Got $25000/yr at SMU and a full ride to OU. I would rather practice in TX, but considering OU for the money and significantly increased odds of being a top student.

No ties in either area, but the OU scholarship comes with a fellowship with tons of networking and whatnot, assuming that will be helpful. Aiming for a career in prosecution, long-term goal is to get on the bench state level or higher.

-Anyone know anything about taking the TX bar from out-of-state? Complications? Difficulties?
-Also, any info regarding career prospects in the Dallas area for OU grads is welcome

Any advice is welcome!

Thanks!

Has SMU released decisions yet? Sad I haven't heard.

Personally, I would pick SMU. It's got a really good reputation in Dallas, especially. Plus, people always say that your LSAT and GPA (and therefore the schools you get into) will have little effect on how you do in law school, so it's not a good reason to pick based off of increased odds of doing well. Not sure if that's true, but it's something to consider.

EDIT: I'd probably pick SMU out of the two

So what is your total projected debt coming out of each school?

How do you have a response from SMU? They haven't released admission decisions yet, the first ones don't go out until the end of January. Or are you projecting based on numbers from LSN or something?

Yeah, I felt awkward re-asking this question, but it's driving me nuts.

Haha, I'd already asked it, so I felt kind of obnoxious. I should look into the not feeling awkwardness program though.

Start a career in sales, then go to law school.

SMU if you want to work in Texas.

Also, I have to echo the "how do you know you're in with money to SMU" question. They haven't released any acceptances yet.
