Advice about schools in the SE

Postby ash0117 » Sun Nov 20, 2011 10:34 pm

I am originally from FL and I am applying to all of the decent FL schools (UF, FSU, UM) and I've already be accepted at 2/3. However, I am not 100% sure that I want to stay in Florida. For health reasons I need to stay in the South (weather needs to be mostly mild) and preferably the SE for family reasons.

I was wondering what job prospects would be like for a Floridian that decided to go to law school in LA, NC, SC, or TN. Since I do not have ties to any of those states, would it be worth it? Could I find a job in the prospective state? I am looking at substantial scholarships at the out of state schools, but I still need to be able to find a job and I have heard that most firms look for ties to the community.

Thanks in advance!

What are your numbers? This will be relevant in deciding what schools will be worth it/ where you will get money.

Also, what are your preferences? Where do you prefer to live?

160/3.88

I am honestly not sure of my preferences. I am looking for the best quality of life and a decent school. Obviously, with my numbers, I am not looking at BigLaw or T-14, and I honestly would like to work for government at some level. Not looking to make tons of cash and I won't be graduating with too much debt. As far as location, Southeast US is the only requirement. I like each of the states I have applied to schools in and I would like to know what my chances are of employment outside of Florida if I go to school outside of Florida.

Thanks.

Don't think my numbers will get me in at UGA, and I don't know that any other school in GA will be worth it.

I think if your numbers won't get you into UGA, you should retake.

My goal was to see what the outcome of this cycle is and if I do not get into a school worth attending that I like, I will retake. Like I said, I already got into UF and UM, so I do have options in Florida. Just looking at other possibilities.

Thanks for the advice, and it is definitely a consideration.
