Should I be applying to more schools?

Postby jzabl001 » Fri Oct 28, 2011 6:01 pm

Have around a 3.0 and will be taking LSAT for first time in December. Currently applying to the following schools:

FSU (reach probably)
UMiami (Went their for undergrad; hopefully competitive)
FIU (Got a masters there; probably 60-40 chance)
Depaul (50-50 or less)

So that leaves me for room to add some safeties. I'd like to stay in Florida so that leaves me with Stetson, Nova, St. Thomas, etc. If forced to go to one of these, I'd try to transfer out to a better school for my second year. Are any of these even considering or should I look out of state? Is 4 enough as is? Looking to study corporate/transactional law if that helps. Thanks in advance!

Why are you applying to DePaul? Why aren't you applying to UF? You shouldn't apply to FIU.

If your LSAT isn't good enough to go to one of the top 2-3 schools in Florida you should retake it until it is good enough. Going to a crappy school and trying to transfer out is an awful idea akin to playing the lottery with a ticket that costs tens of thousands of dollars.

I'm applying to UF, completely forgot to mention that. I love Chicago and Depaul seems to be in my range which is why I'm applying.

He's asking what scores you've been getting on your LSAT practice tests.

with a 3.0 and even a 160 your way out at UF and FSU. Prob in at Miami with no money. Your best bet is to take a year off and retake if you do get a 160 or lower. If you must go next fall Miami or Stetson are the only respectable schools in Florida you will get into most likely.

Edit: By all means apply to UF and FSU, but just chance speaking it's slim.

Yea that's what I'm thinking. UF and FSU are slim to none chances but I figured I'd apply anyways. My Dad is a lawyer so he's been saving up for years with the hope that I did go to law school, so luckily, money isn't an issue. Not a big Stetson guy to be honest since it's sort of limited to the Tampa area in terms of job prospects.
