Of course Maclean's still hasn't changed their odd method for calculating Elite Firm Hiring, where they limit their sample size to the same number of firms in about 10 different cities geographically spread out across Canada. They treat all of these cities equally despite the fact that some cities have a much deeper pool of big name law firms, and may pay up to twice the rate of others for first year associate positions. It would be like using samples of the top 20 law firms in New York and the top 20 law firms in Omaha and then looking at which schools the associates in these firms went to. Here's some better information about the national firms and where they hire from.
