Schools for future ADA in big city

Post by Jimbola » Sun Sep 04, 2011 10:33 am

What kind of school would you recommend to someone who would want to work in a District Attorney's office in a big city after graduation (particularly New York area)?

BYU or Harvard. BYU has a new NYADA clinic and Harvard is a good school

NYU has sweet looking clinics with both the southern and the eastern districts. I imagine Columbia has similar programs.

1) Do well on the LSATs;
2) Apply to schools in NYC, Boston, Phili, etc., but only apply to schools to which you are over the 75th percentile;
3) fill out all fasfa and scholarship applications;
4) attend the highest ranked school in the city you want to work in that offers you a full ride;
5) Profit.

If you know you want to work for the DA's office, I'd take money somewhere as long as it's not a festering TTT.

TBF, you just needed to cross out #5. The rest of the advice seemed pretty spot on.

True, minimizing debt should be an important consideration for PI people, but I think there's an argument to be made for the opposing view as well. If you're on a solid LRAP, then there's not much of a difference between 100k of debt and 200k of debt, at least in terms of your monthly payments. LRAPs cap out-of-pocket contributions based on the participant's income rather than their total debt obligation. So if you're dead-set on doing PI work, then taking on the debt at a better school might be smarter than taking the $$$ at a lower ranked school.

Thanks for all the advise. Struggling with the LSATs :(

Taking them in October. It's crunch time!

1. Pick city you want to be in
2. Look for law schools in that city
3. Nail LSAT and go to where offers the best combination of money and credentials.
4. Try to work for the DA your summers.

Problem solved.
