Vandy Sticker vs. UMN 28k a year
I know this is late but I really would like some advice.
I take out 30k a year in loans at UMN and 46k a year at Vandy.
I would like to work in the South or Chicago, but I don't want to shut out NYC either.
Additionally, I have to pay about $800 to break a lease in MN and to get all my crap to Nashville by this week.
I would regret not going to Vandy, but I don't know if it's the right decision. Please advise.

Vandy. You didn't say you want to work in Minneapolis, so if you have to go this year, then Vandy for sure.

I agree that Vandy seems like it would be a much better fit for you than UMN based on your work preferences. However, I don't know if anyone on this thread would advise going to a non T14 school on sticker. I mean some would not even advise going to a non T6 school on sticker...Going to Vandy without scholly seems pretty risky to me unless you are IP, URM, got ties, fab ugrad record, or something.

Yeah, agreed, retaking/reapplying would be a good idea- for Vandy with scholly or UVA/Duke (or NU for Chicago). What are your numbers?

Interesting. Judging from those #s, I say you're lucky to get into Vandy. I don't see you getting a lot of scholly from similarly ranked schools like WUSTL. I'm not actually sure you could get into WUSTL with those #s actually. There is probably a big difference between Vandy and other schools southern schools like UGA, Wake, UNC, W&L, and Emory. Unless you had a large scholly to one of those schools, I'd take Vandy.yoshi wrote:My numbers are 3.6 gap and 167 from Vandy UG. I have family in Nashville and ties to several firms there from the year I was a paralegal in Nashville.
I know retaking might be a good idea, but my 3 LSATs have been a 165, 166, and a 167 so I doubt I can make an improvement over that.
I have to drive back to Nashville by tomorrow morning. Their orientation is at 8:30.

If you like Nashville & the South, then the answer is obvious.

Go with Vandy. Did you not apply to BC, BU, UCLA or USC?
If you like the south, definitely go to Vandy.

Good luck. You can always transfer to one of the big east coast schools if you get good grades your first year.

great 0L advice. if your grades at vandy are good enough to transfer to HYSCCN, then NYC biglaw would be well within reach coming from vandy.Slevin Kelevra 2011 wrote:Good luck. You can always transfer to one of the big east coast schools if you get good grades your first year.
