Where do you want to practice? What do you want to practice? I would probably say mich in most cases. Their LRAP which covers private and public legal jobs is a nice safety net. Also what is the total difference in cost of attendance? I know mich is the least expensive t-14 I don't know how it compares to vandy though. There might be less of a cost difference then the 35k.

Hell, potentially Michigan even for the South? Maybe not. But yeah... Michigan.

Nah, a degree from Michigan wouldn't work if OP wanted to work in Tennessee, Alabama, etc...w/o ties. Of course, a degree from Vandy might not help in that sense either. All those damn carpetbaggers at Vandy... :D

Generally speaking, this.

(Unless you are super debt averse and would hate AA -- unlikely).

Maybe clerkship. Biglaw would be nice. My wife is Chinese, so if I could get back to her motherland (i.e. American firm in either Shanghai or Beijing) that would also be nice. If not, public sector/DA's office somewhere (preferably not the south, unless Florida, my home state).

Somewhat debt averse. That aversion will probably be enough to keep me out of NYU at sticker.

Ann Arbor is awesome. Just...awesome. I'm a Penn Stater, and I wanted to hated that place, but when I went up for a game a couple years back, it just seemed like a pretty perfect place to live.

Michigan based on your situation, otherwise, as others have noted, Michigan for anywhere but the South.

NYU at sticker was an option? It's considerably more than 30k more expensive than Michigan for you but... that's kinda the T6. Especially if you're looking at clerkships? Maybe I missed something here - this heat is really affecting my ability to perform basic functions.

Confused here as well. Where did NYU suddenly come from? If it's an option, you should really be decididng b/t NYU @ sticker and Mich w/30k

The only reason to go to Vandy would be to break into markets where going to Vandy would constitute a tie (Nashville, Atlanta, etc.). If you don't want those places, go to Mich. Mich > Vandy for Florida if you have ties. Hell, Mich > Vandy for anywhere if you have ties, and most places even if you don't have ties. It's worth $35k more. Michigan at sticker would be a tougher decision.

If you don't have any interest in NYC, Michigan for 30K less is a better option I think. Save on COL and you'll place just as well into quite a few markets.

I'd go with Michigan if you want to practice biglaw in China.

Why? It seems to be that NYU would be a better option in this case.
