Vandy with $ vs wait a year for Northwestern

Post by refusetolose » Fri Jul 01, 2011 6:33 pm

Is taking a year off and going to Northwestern at sticker worth it over going to Vandy this fall with a $10k/year scholly? I'm only on the W/L for Northwestern now but I'm thinking of asking for a binding deferral for the following year.

Not imo. Trading away 50K + a year of your life is not really worth the extra placement. Would probably pick Northwestern if you had both options this year... as it stands, not even close.

I'm assuming that you have nothing lined up for this year in terms of jobs, etc. That being the case, why do you even think that you would necessarily get in to NW next yr?

All things being equal, NW>Vandy. BUT, you are giving up a solid 45-50k b/t the scholly and CoL and, more importantly, starting work a year later. Doesn't seem like it's really worth it unless you have something positive to do to fill the gap.

Good points. I'll shoot them a LOCI this week for admission for this upcoming year
