ST John's vs. Quny

Post by mgersten » Wed Jun 29, 2011 9:55 am

I was recently admitted into St. John's Law School. The problem is that tuition there is 46,000 a year where as Queens Law School is only 12,000 a year. I know that St. John's is a better school but being that neither are top schools does it even pay to go to St. John's? Another possibility would be to take the year off and retake the Lsat as I did relatively poorly on it but have a great GPA.

I'm in the same position. I already spent a year off from school to take the LSAT and to apply to school, I can't imagine doing that more. I'd be going into Law School at the age of 24 without a proper job in the mean time.

Is the $140K in debt really worth gong to St. John's compared to CUNY?

The debt coming out of St. John's is substantially higher compared to that of CUNY. However, neither school gives you great job prospects and I only know CUNY for thier PI focus and the fact that their tuition is comparatively dirt cheap. 140k for SJU isn't worth it, to paraphrase the great Jimmy McMillan, the debt is too damn high.

For the love of god, retake. If your GPA is high, there's no reason to settle for a lower school. If you can ever crack the 160s it'll open a slew more doors for you. Especially if you know you can do better. It's a decision that'll affect the rest of your life so don't half ass the choice.
