FSU vs. UF waitlist. Must decide by July 1st.

I was recently offered a one time scholarship of $2500 to FSU. In order to accept it I have been asked to withdraw from all other schools including waitlists. I am on the waitlist at UF, which is my top choice as I want to practice tax law. I only have until July 1st to decide. Is it worth it to pass up a tiny scholarship in an attempt to hold out and see if I get off the waitlist at UF? It would be a shame to pass up any amount if I were to never get off the UF waitlist. I appreciate any helpful comments and insight.

1. Call UF and let them know about the scholarship and the decision deadline
2. Tell them if admitted, you would attend UF
3. Hold out until June 30th/decide to retake and reapply to get into UF
4. Based on UF's response, either attend UF at sticker, attend FSU, or retake and reapply this cycle

I agree with the other responder but if UF doesn't give you an answer, go to FSU. They have a great program and if you're going to try and go to UF tax law LLM anyway then you will still graduate with the Gator name.

Plus, just because you go to UF for law school does not make you more or less likely to get into the LLM program.

If you really want to UF, I agree with others that you should contact them and explain your situation. If you don't hear back, you should go ahead and accept FSU. Specialty rankings for tax law shouldn't factor in to this decision.

pinkcamellia -- said it perfect. Call UF.

If you go to FSU, just to to UF law for Tax LLM (bear in mind that going to UF for JD is irrelevant for tax purposes -- its all about the LLM).

Best of Luck!

I contacted UF and explained my situation so that they are aware of it. They were very nice but could only give me little info. She did explain to me that requesting my withdrawal from other schools to accept a scholarship is against LSAC's good admission practices but they still can do it if they wanted. Does anyone know if schools share names on waitlists?

I also want to attend UF because I went to undergrad there and preferred being in Gainesville to Tallahassee. Also I have a brother and sister in Gainesville, and it is closer to the rest of my family in St. Augustine and my gf in Miami. I also got a horrible first impression in Tally because someone hit my car and ran.

This is a very interesting position. If I were you I would still try to attend UF instead of bending your choice for $2500 (now if it is $25000 then we are talking about a different story). I still believe UF a better law school than FSU (not a big fan of them and simply a personal opinion). Also from personal experience whenever I "settle" I often feel regretful later and tend to blame all my misfortunes in life afterwards on that choice psychologically (yes it is silly I know :P ).

I want to do tax law too and UF is the lowest I want to go. However this is just me and you have to make the decision on you own eventually.
