Help! Urgent! Need to decidie TODAY
Hello all, I was already set to go to Wake Law at sticker, but all of a sudden Case Western showed up with 36k scholarship/year with no stipulation except good academic standing. I know typical questions you will ask me is : is retake an option? where do i want to practice? etc. but to sum it down, I want a good life in the future and a safe environment for my kids to grow up, a safe neighborhood, that's about all I care at the moment, please give me some input, I already paid deposit at wake, Case deposit due tomorrow, thank you!

Well considering that Wake Forest costs a lot of money at sticker and that Case Western only graduates 60% of its class into full time jobs as lawyers, I would recommend retaking.
If I had to choose between these, I would definitely take Case because Wake at sticker is insanely expensive.

The "safe neighborhood" thing may be a sticking point--but $108,000 buys a lot of protection.

One thing about Case is that it's in a pretty rough area of Cleveland, but the good news is that you can (and fucking should) commute.
I don't know whether employment stats out of these schools are comparable, but I'd think that at this level in the rankings, you should go with less debt.

Is it true that the Navy Seals refuse to train in Cleveland because of the danger ?

I know several ex Seals who live in Cleveland, so no.

Ohio is awful, go to Wake. A lifetime of being able to practice law in a better area with improved job prospects is worth the extra debt.

TITCR
Having the embarrassing distinction of living in that god-awful city (cleveland), and now a rising 2L at wake, bk is on the money. cleveland blows, and wake is not the best choice at sticker. if you can coax even a bit of money from wake (10-15k/year), i would go with wake.

you are right, with 10k i'd glad to go to wake, wouldn't even hesitate, but wake isn't giving me anything at all, just loans that I have to worry about 3 years from now

Have you tried telling them about your other offers?

yes i sent two emails, first one was before I got the case offer, it was more of explanation my difficult financial situation, and I received the response that they will do the best they can, though not optimistic, then after a while I sent in the case offer, and no response at all

How long ago was that?
One of my top choices took about 3 weeks to get back to me with an offer after I sent them other offers (after they initially offered nothing).

like two days ago... the admissions staff at wake has been real nice and helpful, always responded quickly to whatever questions I emailed or called about, I guess I am hurrying too much

I would go with Case. Cleveland isn't that bad esp if you're considering that OP has a family so it's sort of a different situation. As much as people slam Cleveland, it does have some interesting things if you look hard enough. It has pro sports teams, the R&R HOF, areas like Little Italy. Everything a family would need, Cleveland is fine.
While Case job prospects might not be great, the reality is that it's like that at a lot of schools. Considering roughly 80-90k in debt verses 100k more debt at Wake, Case sounds better to me esp since there are essentially no stipulations. Wake is not worth sticker by any measure and there's virtually no chance they'll give you money. It's not Wake's MO. The first thing they give you during a visit is a booklet about obtaining loans so that tells you all you need to know about Wake and money.
If you care more about family than anything, Case is such a better place to go. The debt is much more manageable and Cleveland isn't that bad. Winston-Salem is not that great to begin with either.

OP: Are you willing to share your numbers ?
P.S. I don't see any reason to turn down CWR's offer of $36,000 per year with no stipulations versus full sticker at WFU. But you must have a high LSAT to be offered such a generous scholarship to CWR--so you should have had other options.

If re-take/re-apply isn't an option, go with Case. That debt is just WAY too much for Wake.

Just to make sure--the good academic standing doesn't have a GPA requirement attached to it, right?
If there is one, it might be hard to maintain the required GPA because of grade curves.
Btw, I would pick Case Western if you don't have to worry about GPA. That's a pretty good scholarship.

Personally I would prefer Wake to case and NC to cleveland. With that said that scholarship is a lot of money so I might have to take Case if there really is no stips.

Case got rid of their stips. There was a thing about it after the NYT "GPA stips" article.
