Pick a state you want to live in. Personally, I'd choose Nevada. Nevada will continue to grow, once the recession ends. You will enjoy your time in Vegas, especially the winters. There are tons of affordable housing options in the Vegas area right now. The law school building is very new and well designed. Since you will not be on scholarship, you won't be in the stacked section. It's easy to obtain Nevada residency for 2L and 3L years. However, you should know, that UNLV will most likely be increasing tuition dramatically in the coming years to make up for the shortfall of tax dollars.

Some have difficulty tolerating Las Vegas for more than a few days a year. Kansas has a beautiful campus & a solid law school. This really comes down to personal preference.

Pick a state. If you don't see yourself working long term in either then I would strongly suggest that you don't go.

The majority of people that live in Vegas do not live like they are on a permanent bachelor party retreat. It's basically a normal life, but when you do choose to go out on the town, the options are way better than anywhere else in the country. Tao = Love

Also keep in mind that there is a lot more to Nevada than just Las Vegas. The Reno/Tahoe area is a great place to live and work. Many northern students attend Boyd and then head back north post-school. It's not a huge market but the state capital is in the north and the casino industry there isn't nearly as in-your-face as it is in Vegas. This is not to put Vegas down, many of the outlying communities (Summerlin, Henderson, etc.) in the south are great places to live and provide a good buffer from what happens on the strip.

One of the best things about the state both north and south is that the Feds own 87% of the land. This means there are great outdoor activities available all year round including hiking, mountain biking, off-roading, skiing, golf, camping, fishing, etc. Don't let the haters and stereotypes fool you. This is a great place to live with a very high quality of life.
