I regret it and don't really care about the $50k+ I'm saving anymore. I haven't gone through OCI yet, and I do actually like the law school itself, but as far as life goes... Chicago blows. If you decide not to come here, don't regret it.
Are you sure it's Chicago in entirety and not just Hyde Park?

Oh yeah. I hate living in this city and can't wait to get out of here.

if it helps, columbia had ~78% of participants get at least one offer for eip 2010. ~400 people (around 85% of the class) participated in eip.

ive visited uchicago twice (once in winter once in summer) and im from manhattan so i was partial to columbia. I ended up choosing columbia for various reasons, but regardless I don't think the difference in $$ (especially if its only 43k) should influence your decision in any way--that breaks down to $14k per year, and CLS will have a higher cost of living, but if/when you go into private practice after law school, you'll make it all back in a year.

the poster above me me correct about columbia's 2010 EIP info-- 312 students accepted an offer from a v100 firm or Mckinsey during 2L EIP last year, 50% of these were in v20 firms. still others got jobs in secondary markets and smaller firms in primary markets via mass mailing and connections. my advice is, if you want to work in biglaw and you want to work in ny, forget the $43k and goto columbia. if you want to be in chicago one day then uchicago might be favorable. but the ultimate decision should be based on your career goals and your gut feelings about the school and the location, not the $43k in scholarships/financial grants
