This isn't a big deal. George Mason previously had a C+ curve. Now they have a B/B+ curve like all the other law schools in the area. The A+* is just a way of signifying the highest grade in the class.

All permanent T50 schools should use a B+ scale. All B+ scales use the A+.

A+ is the limit. A+ might be a little silly, but anything above it is beyond stupid. I would be embarrassed handing over a transcript with A+* or A++ on it.

At Northwestern, A+ is top 7% in curved classes, so about 4 per course per section (about 65 people) in first year. But in uncurved classes it seems like half the class gets an A+. It might be defensible in the first instance to show someone was right at the top of their class, but in the uncurved classes it is worthless ... and I am pretty sure everyone knows it (both at the school and in the real world).
