University of Richmond v. Regent

Postby klcherbe » Tue Mar 29, 2011 10:33 pm

I've been accepted to both University of Richmond and Regent, but was wait listed at my #1 choice W&M. Regent offered me 3/4 tuition scholarship and U of R didn't offer me anything. I don't want to do BigLaw, but I am likely to be practicing outside of Virginia as my long time boyfriend is in the military and was stationed at Langley AFB, which is why I need to go in the area. Is passing up the big debt at Regent future job potential suicide?

I have 160/ 3.77
And if I get into W&M will likely go there.

Neither are ideal options. Richmond is fine with a generous scholarship, but I would avoid going there at sticker price. No amount of money could make me touch Regent. Have you thought about retaking in June to get off of the waitlist at W&M? Your GPA is solid, but it's your LSAT that's hurting you. You have a decent chance with a 164/165.

I was surprised to get my 160... my average was 158 in princeton review... my Oct one was 153, but my gas tank got broken open on the freeway the day before so I wasn't in the best state of mind lol..

Have you tried negotiating for scholarship money at Richmond? I'm surprised you didn't get anything; your GPA is well above the 75th %ile and your LSAT is close to the median.

As for W&M's WL, from what I've observed from the charts on LSN and the W&M threads here, it's a veritable bloodbath and very few make it off.

I'm from the area and visited Regent when looking into law schools. Unless you are a hardcore xtian and don't mind only having the option of working at only conservative xtian law firms, then you will be okay @ Regent. However, if you have any secular leanings, you would be advised to avoid the school at all costs. Richmond is expensive, but sticker @ Richmond is better than 75% scholarship @ Regent.
