Happens to threads containing stupid questions.

How could anyone here possibly answer your question? If you develop a specialty or become well-known, it may not matter much at all. If you do nothing but petty crap work for 4 years, it could matter a lot. For some small firms, some may prefer military with a lower-ranked school. For others, they may not care about military service at all and treat you like any other current lawyer without a book of business, without experience billing clients, etc.

The question wasn't that stupid (re post milt job prospects). OP just wasn't clear about if he was actually JAG or not and looked like a douche-bag because of the lack of clarity.

You have two other threads that are exactly the same though.

See my edit. There is just no way to answer this. It's like saying, how much will my law school matter 6 years after I graduate? Completely subjective and will depend on a million different possibilities.

The further out you are, the more what you've actually done matters. But, for some it will still matter a lot.

The marines are a part of the department of the Navy whereas the Army is the Army. Now Rangers which are a subset of the Army are called Rangers not Soldiers. I have friends who are in the Army and the Marines and during my two tours in the middle east we lost close to 160 people from my division mostly Army but quite a few marines and a couple of Navy guys and when you're a JAG having to do things like death investigations, FOIA requests, or Congressional inquires into the death of US service men and women I hope you don't have the same ignorant attitude you've displayed on this board. I've been on convoys with Marines and they are my brothers in arms, nothing more nothing less.

edited to fix some grammar issues

The reason a Marine is a Marine has nothing to do with the fact that the Marine Corps is part of the Dept. of the Navy. The Depart of the Navy wasn't established until 23 years after the Corps was established, and the Corps existed for 59 years before being under the control of the DON. Are you telling me Marines were not Marines until 1834?

As far as being brothers in arms, I've not said anything to the contrary. And, if you aren't a Marine, I can't expect you to know what it is to be a Marine, as it isn't something you can understand unless you've been through the process of becoming a Marine. I simply stated that becoming a Marine is more difficult than entering into the other services, which is a statement I will defend all day long. I'm not putting down the Army, Air Force, or Navy. SEALs are awesome, as are Rangers/SF, and Pararescue. Each branch is necessary and each branch has their specialties.

I'm not sure why you took my statements to be derogatory, as they were not. I served overseas with people from Navy, Air Force, and Army. My best friend is SF and we give each other shit all the time because I swear FORECON is better than SF and he tells me I'm wrong. But, at the end of the day, it doesn't matter when the shit hits the fan.

To put in law school terms, pretending to be in the Marines is pretending to get accepted to Yale/Stanford. Pretending to be in the Army/Navy/Air Force is like pretending to be accepted to a good T2. -scrabblechamp

why would I take that as derogatory? lol. whatever man keep thinking whatever you want to.

I also found this derogatory. It's more like pretending to work for Kirkland while the others are pretending to work for Skadden. There is a difference perhaps but not that drastic of one.

oops get it now. sorry

edit: to be clear acting like you were in any service without ever doing it is sad and disgusting.

and I could care less about the 'big stick' debate.

Yeah but that means nothing (maybe legally but not to those in). In the AF, there is a ceremony at the end of basic where you get coined and are then an "Airmen". You're a trainee before that. You haven't earned the right to call yourself that yet...

Even those in the academy aren't "in" yet.

No point in trying. To be blunt, as a SJA, you will most likely see combat. Also, you may end up loving the Corps, or you may not make it through OCS or TBS. Personally, I think you should not do PLC. You are already making assumptions that you will not like military life, so why put yourself through 9 months (OCS and TBS) of hell all for a few thousand dollars of educational help? You'd be better served to not have any commitments you are already looking to get out of, and just attend on your own dime and have the freedom to do whatever you want when you graduate.

Exactly. It means everything to be given the EGA when you've finally earned it. Taking the title prior to that point is spitting in the faces of all those that have earned it. It's disrespectful and presumptious.

I said when I (and if I) leave the Marines what would my prospects be? this will be my last post on this thread I am sorry if anyone took this the wrong way I really was just looking for some information from someone who may have answers

I did answer your question if you look at my more recent posts. There is no possible way to answer this. Too many factors. To be safe, use the normal advice and go as high as you can for as cheap as you can.
