I'm between American, George Mason, Maryland (in state), UGA ($$) and Wake. I currently live near DC and am hoping to end up in the area. Any advice?

I don't know how transportable the UGA degree is. Despite the lower ranking, I've always heard that GM does well in the DC Metro area. I am a big fan of Maryland but have been told that the UMD degree is great to practice anywhere in the State outside of DC. If you want DC I've been told you go to the DC schools. I like Wake also but again would be concerned about the transportability.

Money talks. UGA or UMD is my inclination. you have to decide what is more important: the region or the cost.

American is your bet shot at DC, but it's not worth anything close to sticker.

I'm not familiar with the Maryland legal market, but Maryland seems to be the best bet out of the four (in terms of cost v. prospects).

This, plus don't count on finding meaningful DC employment.

If I were you I would not pick American, it just costs too damn much. That's why I won't be going there, even though I like the school. And they are very stingy, they usually don't give more than a $10,000 scholarship to their students.

Maryland is a good deal in-state. I just don't like the location of the law school but if you do UMD has a better rep than American. I would also be concerned that American keeps dropping in the rankings, while UMD has generally kept it's ranking and reputation.

If you want DC, do not go to UGA. UGA is synonymous with the south and it won't really get you anywhere near DC unless you're near the top of your class.

Wake is OK, probably not your best option for DC but it's doable. George Mason is a good choice and is respected in DC; I kind of wish I would have applied there to give myself more DC options. I believe they are big on gov't, not sure though.

If I were you, I would pick George Mason or UMD to stay close to DC.
