Anyone else bothered about all the tied ranks?

Postby idfatq » Wed Mar 16, 2011 6:30 am

There are 2 schools -#22 BU and #34 W&L - that hold their rank alone between #13 and #39... USNWR needs to sack up and get rid of this "ah, shit just put them all as tied" BS. /rant

On the other hand, it's not like it matters.

There should be more ties in that rankings should be by groups, in my opinion, since only miniscule differences (often based on opinions) separate the current rankings.

i don't see how it really matters. they scored the schools, and whatever score they gave them, that was that. should they change scores by a point or something? and even if they broke the tie and made one school a point higher than the other, would that even mean anything? might as well tie them.

For the record, W&L is not in sole possession of 34 - it is tied at 30. So there actually is only one school in that range which is not tied with another.

No. It makes perfect sense.

Why would you try to determine a strict superiority between schools that are essentially regional? Look at #27: three schools in Boston, MA, Williamsburg, VA, and Iowa. I would guess that 90% of the graduates from those schools will never be in competition with a graduate of one of those other schools. They're going to work in small- to mid-size firms in their home state.

The top of the classes at BC and W&M (both #27) might compete with each other for shots at NY/DC biglaw, but at that point they're being judged individually more than on the name on their degree. To say that one of those schools is better than another is a pointless exercise.

The rankings are total BS - Valparaiso should NOT be tied with Cooley.

Now I'll never be able to choose between Detroit Mercy and Wayne State!

My rule of thumb is to go to the school who spams your email account the most.
