Atlanta Firms

I have a question regarding placement into Atlanta:

excluding the T14, what is the general hierarchy of placement in Atlanta? Do any schools after Emory and Georgia take a solid chunk of the market? Georgia State? Alabama? etc?

Vandy > GA/Emory > Georgia St.

Doh. Completely forgot about Vandy's impact in Atlanta.

+1 for this, I went to school at Gatech, and the only law school that visited us was Vandy, apparently we are the largest feeder school for them outside of their own undergrad class.

Emory has never not had better hiring numbers than UGA, and about doubled them from the last NLJ data release. where does this myth come from??

Also, idk if you noticed but Ga St. also outplaced UGA

Vandy > Emory > UGA

OP's question was about placement in Atlanta.

Atlanta placement =/= NLJ250 placement

Emory places more into NLJ250 because they send more to NYC/DC.

There seem to be more UGA alums in high positions than GA State alums, which is benefit for new UGA grads. I am basing this off of partners at some of Atlanta's bigger firms and the super lawyer lists. I know this data is insufficient for the claim I just made, this is just a suggestion on how it can be interpreted.

For full disclosure, part of the reason I'm inquiring is because I applied to the schools relevant to this question and was trying to get a feel for the greater ATL market. I know that the economy has impacted Emory to a degree. I received a scholarship to Bama that would allow me to attend with virtually no debt, and I had heard that Alabama, while not on the Emory/UGA/Vandy level (three schools I also have applied to) in regards to placement within Atlanta, still has the ability to send some members of its graduating class there. I'm curious if there's any truth to that, or whether I'd be relegated to Alabama/N. Florida etc. Graduating with no debt would provide me a great deal of flexibility that my other options may not.

Atlanta was one of the hardest hit legal markets. Any school that significantly feeds into ATL has been really hurt placement wise as a result, especially compared to schools that do not depend on Atlanta.

I feel like Alabama's placement in Atlanta is up there with Emory's and Georgia's. It's definitely better than Georgia State's.

Alabama's major three markets are Birmingham, Nashville, and Atlanta.

Aww, is it that time of month again, or are you just upset that your law school's legitimacy took a hit in the latest USNWR rankings?

weird, no Alabama anywhere? Maybe if we took a snapshot of the better times...

huh. 55th in the rankings. I guess they're definitely just as competitive!

Georgia has the inside track compared to Alabama, but Alabama won't hamper your employment search. Most people who go to Alabama choose to stay in Alabama (Low COL, proximity to the beach, etc.) and therefore they don't place well into the NLJ250, but that does not mean they do not place into the NLJ250 because those firms will not hire them, most of the Bama grads just aren't looking for those positions.

How much would a UGA undergrad degree help if I decided to go to a T-20 school outside of the South?

I'm not planning on coming back to Atlanta, but I'd like to keep my options open, especially since I have family here.
