From what I hear a lot of 1Ls go back to their hometowns their first summer. They say that Michigan is a national school and sends people everywhere. But I mean, I'd take anything from law students at Michigan with a grain of salt (they seem to be as in love with Michigan as I am as an undergrad and I usually make it sound much better than it actually is for some reason).warandpeace wrote:Is it a stupid choice to want to ED to U of Michigan with the expectation that I can get an internship with a firm in LA for each summer/end up with a job in LA after LS? I live in California and I want to work in California, but Michigan is my absolute top choice. I don't care so much for UCLA/USC. What do you guys think?
do you mind if i pm you?fltanglab wrote:From what I hear a lot of 1Ls go back to their hometowns their first summer. They say that Michigan is a national school and sends people everywhere. double check what kind of placement rates they have in LA. get anecdotal evidence to support. i think you have options if you can get into Michigan. and you never know... maybe you won't be so set on LA by the time you graduate.
check out michigan's site and look around for "job placement" or career statistics something like that and/or check out the TLS summary on M: http://www.top-law-schools.com/michigan-law-school.htmlwhere do you think i can get this info?
curious... if you're set on LA, and would have the ability to clear an M acceptance, i would suggest dominating at UCLA or USC and being absolutely set w/ your choice of firms in LA. thoughts?and no, i'm set on LA.

no advice? i'm not sure if i'm making a stupid decision, which is why i asked if this was a stupid choice, in my original post.tourdeforcex wrote:cool. in the end, attend the school you feel is right so long as you're not making a stupid decision.
best wishes

Hope you rocked the LSAT -- like 175+
which is why my title says "extremely hypothetical" not "extremely probable"tourdeforcex wrote:above sounds like truth.
let's worry about a Michigan ED decision node when the numbers are settled

But as the previous poster mentioned, you aren't going to get in at Michigan (with a 3.2 GPA) even with early decision, unless you absolutely destroy the LSAT. Even then, you might not get in. Same goes for UCLA.
I think you're crazy.warandpeace wrote:Is it a stupid choice to want to ED to U of Michigan with the expectation that I can get an internship with a firm in LA for each summer/end up with a job in LA after LS? are you really going to harvard?? damn sonTheTopBloke wrote:1. FUCK MICHIGAN
2. You're basing a decision on where you hope to be working in 3 years time. There could better offers. That offer could be bullshit. Even if you get the job it could be the worst job you've ever had in your life.
3. You'd rather be in Michigan than LA?
You need to reassess the situation from another perspective.
you know, i believe what you're saying about harvard. i don't feel like going to a top ivy means you have substance. what school are you going to, if you don't mind me asking?TheTopBloke wrote:No I don't attend Harvard. I have to change that. In fact I didn't even apply. I was so unimpressed with the alumni I was turned off of applying to that school.
I'm heavily biased against Michigan, or any other state so absurdly economically depressed.
