I would really appreciate opinions on a choice between Emory and William & Mary as to academic quality, employment prospects and quality of life. I have scholarships for both that are roughly equal on a CoA comparison basis.

Depends on pref. of practice. I personally would choose W&M.

I chose Emory over W&M last year, and W&M probably would have ended up being about 30k cheaper. I'm very happy with my choice, but I really did like both schools.

W&M probably had the friendliest students I've encountered anywhere. I got to the school about an hour before my tour was supposed to start, so I just introduced myself to a few law students, and they told me all about the school and offered to show me around themselves. However, in order to keep my scholarship I would have needed to stay above a 3.0 (with around a 3.17 or 3.2 curve...the Dean of admissions said it was roughly top 65%) and I would have needed to work in the library for 8 or 10 hours per week. I wasn't really that concerned about it until I was talking to someone who was afraid of losing his scholarship. That kind of terrified me.

So while I really liked W&M and thought I'd be happy there, I chose Emory because I just need to stay in good standing to keep my scholarship, and because I prefer suburb/city life to small town charm. I also really liked the school when I visited. The vibe is different tbhan W&M, but it's still friendly and inviting. The students seemed chill and like they were really friends and enjoyed being around one another, and the class I sat in on was absolutely amazing.

I think it should come down to where you want to end up working and which school you get a better vibe from. I mean, they're both good schools, and if the coa will be the same, I'd go where you'd be happiest.

I'd be down to answer any questions about Emory though if you have them.
