And the question is phrased too generally to elicit very useful answers. Spend an hour researching on this site, look at the NLJ job placement data and clerkship placement data, etc. Good luck, great options!

Re: WUSTL ($$$) vs Vanderbilt ($)
Based on those scholly numbers I think you should change the title to $$$ v. $$ rather than $$$ v. $ as you have it. I think you do have to consider practice area preferences with both these schools, but all other things being equal I personally would probably take Vandy. WUSTL gave you an awesome offer (full ride or maybe even more than that?), but Vandy also is offering a lot, and I think Vandy does place significantly better into high paying jobs than Wash U. However, I really think it comes down to personal preference. Have you visited the schools yet? I think that could make a big difference.
Also, with those offers I'm thinking you must have some admits to T14 and maybe even T6? If so, kind of wondering if you're that debt averse that you won't just go T14, especially since you don't seem to know what region you would prefer practicing in and it sounds like you may want to keep your options open.

Re: WUSTL ($$$) vs Vanderbilt ($)
If these #s are accurate, Vandy. Historically, Vandy places close to 40% in big law while WUSTL is closer to 25%. So the break even valuation point for big law is (135K-89K)/0.15 ~= 306K. You'll make that back in the salary difference between big law and shit law in 3 years.Dave Davely wrote:At this point in the application process I am looking at the following two options:
1) WUSTL - $135,000 total scholarship over three years
2) Vanderbilt - $89,000 total scholarship over three years
Let's assume that I am trying to maximize my return on the investment in a law degree (no geographic or practice area concerns, not especially debt averse or spendthrift). Which of the above options would be the credited response? Please do me a favor and explain the rationale behind your answer.

Thanks for the response. I fudged the numbers slightly to help hide my identity.d34dluk3 wrote: If these #s are accurate, Vandy. Vanderbilt. If the scholarship difference were greater this would be harder but as they stand Vanderbilt's the pick here.

Vandy without question, unless, and only unless, you want to work in St. Louis or another small Midwestern city (not Chicago)

You might want to do a poll. Anyway, I'd do Vandy. It's worth 46k more if you are aiming for biglaw.
