TBF, there is virtually no other school/career path that offers even a >10% chance of making six figures after only 3 years of school with no significant work experience or residency required. The average salary in America is around $42,000-44,000. So yeah, basic economics mandates there would have to be a significant risk involved due to the attractiveness of the option. But the whole no-bankruptcy deal does add tremendously to the risk involved.

Re: How has TLS affected your thought/application process?
TLS taught me the importance of rankings, the T14 disctinction, and how the economy has affected the legal market. A year ago my plan was to shoot for Harvard and go to BU or BC if I didn't get in. I believed all the stuff in their brochures about everyone making 160,000 after school. This year I didn't even bother applying to either school, and though I have little to no hope of getting into Harvard my backups are now CLS and NYU.

Re: How has TLS affected your thought/application process?
Best things that TLS did for me was make me realize
1) What law schools were worth attending at what price
2) What a numbers game law school admissions was and how low my gpa was and how important it would be for me to get a (comparatively) high lsat
3) That improving by 20 points from a diagnostic was possible (and thus I aimed for and got it)
sifting through all the bullshit on tls has definitely been worth it

I decided against this and instead i'm diversifying the packages to allow for greater leverage. So, i'll make sure to package the debt from the biglaw kids with the debt from cooley kids.SBL wrote:Throw some mortgages in there too bro, just to make sure it's safe.Patriot1208 wrote: I'm currently buying off students debt so I can package them into AAA rated securities.

This is honestly one of the most important lesson to take from this site. I can't tell you how many friends have asked me about law school admissions and said shit like "I have a 3.5/164, but that's like the 90th percentile, and I spent two years working on political campaigns after college, so I'm pretty sure I have a good shot at Berkeley!"tea_drinker wrote:TLS taught me adcoms only care about numbers.

My main takeaway from TLS: everyone with a sub-170 LSAT is a prole.
That, and we're all fucked.

pending at 3 schools. WL'ed at one. the $$ is making me lean WUSTL though. and I only come off as an asshole because it's a internet forum. I'm actually a pretty nice guy.lawandi wrote:Not to be rude, but are you attending WUSTL for sure? Anyway, TLS made my ambitions go from Loyola LA-->UCLA. And there's a chance that reality may just follow my ambitions. Thanks, TLS (I think).

Thank... you?
Edit: Also, I'm much more of an asshole and an elitist. And I spend way more time than is reasonable typing on an online message board to anonymous 0Ls. Hooray.

Re: How has TLS affected your thought/application process?
I agree, to an extent. I don't think the admissions process is exclusively about numbers (at least, in many cases), but you certainly need the numbers to be competitive. For the applicants in the middle (i.e. around both medians, but not above or below both), softs, additional essays, and application timing seem to count for a lot. Of course, you're going to have predictable results if you're considerably above or below both medians, but for the rest of us, I don't think it's as black-and-white as TLS makes it out to be.SBL wrote:This is honestly one of the most important lesson to take from this site. Maybe the best advice I've seen around here (regarding admissions) is that numbers are necessary but not sufficient.

Through the harsh cancer espoused in every direction on TLS, I was able to further bolster my crippled, second-guessing personality, and ensure that I will never be comfortable with the decision I make in regard to what school to attend, or whether to attend at all. This is a place where us insecure and bitter individuals can gather and try to shit all over the people who make decisions and then move forward, making the best of the options they have, without the need of a message board on which to explode the diarrhea which are their self-doubts, masked in the form of advice to others. Thank you TLS !

I want to go on a "Nicholas Cage in National Treasure"-style quest one day following all the hints and clues I can find. And then maybe one day, I will finally come across the ancient secret. And then I will go running through the streets proclaiming "Guys!! I finally figured out what international law is!! And you told me it didn't exist!"amorfati wrote:"There's no such thing as international law."

Re: How has TLS affected your thought/application process?
Before TLS, I thought I could easily get into UVa by relying on just my 3.95+ GPA. After TLS, I realize how lucky I am to have been waitlisted at UVa with my <25% LSAT. I also know that I will not get off the waitlist.

TLS taught me that unless I was going to a T6 I should retake and reapply.
Then I got into a T6...so TLS taught CCN are TTT's in decline and not worth sticker...
...so now TLS has taught me to drink

Unless your in at YHS or have a fullride at a T10 you will probably feel bad about your choice because of TLS.

+1. Yes, it's the 99th percentile, but just barely, almost a thousand other people got that score this year. Seriously, you think that makes you a special butterfly? Yeah right. You need to be well into the 99th percentile. Re-take and let's talk when you have 175+ahduth wrote:I can now feel inadequate that I only got a 173 on the LSAT. Thanks TLS!
