If I'm taking debt I need to pay it back, I don't care as much where I work to do it. Some ND grads do go other places besides the midwest though, and the before mentioned alumni network couldn't hurt.
TLS seems to think of ND as worse than its regional peers (definitely worse than WUSTL/Illinois, maybe even worse than the state schools like Wisconsin and Indiana-Bloomington).

While I agree with you that UoI is better I think WUSTL is roughly the same and there is no way in hell I would take either UIB or Wisconsin (of all schools) over ND.

If I was a bit mroe debt adverse I would say T14+UT+Vandy. In fact I would take Vandy before taking Cornell or GULC in some cases.
In what cases would you take Vanderbilt over Cornell or Georgetown?

I'd take Vandy over Cornell/GULC if it were cheaper or I wanted to work in the south.

Well, I'm waitlisted at UW-Madison also :x But I would not take on the debt to attend, awesome school though.

I would take Vandy over Cornell and GULC if some or all of the following factors were present: 1.) Could stand to work somewhere other than NYC. 2. Didn't want to work in DC. 3. Didn't want to do government.

Basically, Vandy is in my top 5 most underrated law schools in the nation. Their placement is simply better than GULC in firms and better than Cornell in many non NYC firms. People have to realize that vandy's reach is pretty solid and as long as we're not talking CA as the destination they have just as much power as a T14 does.

I lived on UW-Madison's campus for a year about 6 years back. There is nothing except drinking there, and I was a city kid so it was tough for me to last that year before moving. Its a fine law schools, but to say it has better reach or placement than ND does isn't a statement I could ever endorse.
