Hi everyone,

If I want to practice entertainment law in LA, how imperative is it for me to attend a law school in CA? If I had the option of UCLA vs. Duke/Cornell, which should I choose?

aside from the fact that you won't be practicing entertainment law, it's pretty much a wash.

I'm a Duke Alum (J.D./M.A.) who has been helping my significant other choose a law school and she has sucked me into this website this morning. I saw your post and felt like commenting. For what it's worth, a good friend of mine landed a great "Entertainment Law" position her first and second year out of law school. She graduated in 2006 and is now doing very well managing nearly all business affairs for one major pop-star and one not-so famous (i.e., one hit wonder) pop-star. That being said, she is the only person I know who does anything that could even be called "Ent. Law". It's all about what you can find for yourself these days through a creative career search.

Also, as a disclaimer, when I was choosing law schools Cornell was at the top of my list, but that was b/c I was interested in dual degree programs. I don't know much about either Cornell or UCLA's entertainment law course. Ultimately, it's about what kind of connections you can dig up for yourself. I'm not certain how she found her summer positions, one of which was a record company in Atlanta, but I think she did most of the work on her own (i.e., w/out the help of Career Services).

Ok! Thank you so much for your input! May I ask what did you get your M.A. in?
