In before someone tells you not to go to law school. Or to retake the LSAT.
Honestly, If you really want to be a lawyer, perhaps W&M is worth it (COL in Williamsburg is not too bad, and it's a T30). I would avoid Hofstra, but maybe with a full ride it is not horrible. Don't go to GMU though.

William & Mary. Hofstra has a bad rep in NYC and no rep outside of it. If you want to practice in the New York area think of all the other schools that employers will sift through before getting to Hofstra: Columbia, NYU, Fordham, Cardozo, Brooklyn, St John's and probably part of New York Law School--and these are just the ones that are actually located in NYC. Even if you want to do personal injury and don't even want anything to do with BigLaw, I would caution against getting a degree from Hofstra.

Do you qualify for the in-state tuition at W&M and GMU?

I say WM without question simply because it is by far the best law school that you mentioned. The determination of where to attend law school of course depends on where you would like to live, and if the answer to that is VA, then take WM regardless of a GM scholly. GM does NOT place nearly as well as WM in VA and surrounding areas, and the additional debt that you would incur at WM would be negligible in the long haul. Anyhow, just my two cents...TAKE WM! Good luck with your decision.

I think people are reacting to some combination of the following:DJ5 wrote: Which brings me back to my other question, what's everyone's problem with GMU?
- It's only the third or fourth best school in its own metro area (a milder version of Hofstra's own problem);
- It's said to have a "conservative" bias ... I have no idea if that's true but it turns some people off; and
- Although well-ranked (Tier 1), it lacks a little bit in name-recognition and general prestige.
Personally I think those faults would be outweighed by a fat scholly, but that's just me.
