I shouldn't want to go somewhere that I wouldn't be happy with graduating around median. So where should I be happiest graduating at median?

I don't care about job market, just a non shitlaw job.

Also, explain your choice.

From everything I know about all those schools, it seems like BU would be the best.

Does Champaign count as UIUC's home market?

Definitely BU. Boston has a signifcant legal market but isnt flooded with grads from other schools. GW may be a better school than BU, but DC is flooded. Same thing for chicago.

GW - so-so market with heavy GULC competition
UIUC - heavy competition with Chi/NU, WUSTL, even some UMN kids
WUSTL - see above. Unless you actually want to stay in St. Louis...don't know why anyone would.
BU - the winner: virtually no competition in Boston (Harvard kids don't stay). Even decent placement in NYC if you do end up above median.

Nefarious anti BC trolling.

I would only add that GW is in a market that is a big draw for all of the T14. And I lol'd at WUSTL's comment.

But yea OP, BU all the friggin way.

Would you also say that medians at BU have a bigger regional advantage than the other schools and that this is good for those who are medianPWNED?

i ranked them in order from best to worst, with a little explanation:

The George Washington University = #2 in DC
Boston University = tied with BC for #3 after H
University of Illinois - UIUC = #3 in CHI after UChi and NU, plus has to deal with the swarm of MI, ND, WUSTL, WI, MN, loyola, kent grads
Washington University in St. Louis = #1 in st louis but there are literally NO jerbs in st. louis

HTH

EDIT: nvm about GW, i didnt realize u plan on being medianPWNd....i want to switch my vote to BU.

More so than at the other schools listed, except WUSTL if you count the STL market. But if you do give the slightest consideration to quality of life in said region BU reigns supreme.

Of the other 3 I'd say GW has the best prospects, but I would wait to see how much, if any, you are offered is scholly money.

Curious as to why WUSTL is getting more votes than GWU.

You have a shot, should at least make the wait list.

And, at least from what I've heard from people at WUSTL, one of the problems with trying to get work in STL after WUSTL ITE is that the firms will suspect you were somebody who went to WUSTL with the dream of biglaw and struck out, so you're stuck scrounging for work in the relatively small STL market, and local firms aren't too keen on taking in those type of people, especially if they have no ties to the city. Any current WUSTL students, feel free to correct me if I'm completely off base.

I don't think you'd run into this problem, at least not nearly as to the same severity, as you would from BU to the Boston market.

Sure. It really is an awesome school... It's almost impossible to find any criticism of it (aside from the ugly monolithic building). Good luck, hope you get in!

I'm interested in this thread too. I'm from StL, but no worries I'm used to the bashing. I'm looking to get to Chicago after WUSTL, but wouldn't mind ending up in StL if I ended up at the median. Hopefully the law firms wont be so cynical towards a townie.

You clearly have ties, WUSTL would be a great choice. Some prestige, some reach, and if you fail you're stuck in your hometown ... not horrible.
