You don't think people similarly evil to me exist? I assure you that they do (and that many of them are law students).Moral_Midgetry wrote:I call bullshit. The OP does not have "friends."

You probably saw someone stressed about about their course selection and immediately jumped to conclusions. Nobody goes into a two year daze because they struck out at OCI.Dood, I'm only reporting what I saw. If you want to give us some counter-examples (complete w class rank and other relevant factors), that would be great.
While I don't make a habit of keeping a spreadsheet of my former classmates class rank, almost everyone I graduated is doing something law-related that they enjoy. FWIW, I work in biglaw.

I think you missed the part where I said I visited friends brah. I actually spoke to people (inc 2Ls).nealric wrote:You probably saw someone stressed about about their course selection and immediately jumped to conclusions. So what? Neither of us has done a comprehensive scientific survey. My experience is that almost everyone does fine (even if a higher percentage strike out for biglaw ITE). I don't see what the point of starting this thread was.I think you missed the part where I said I visited friends brah. I actually spoke to people (inc 2Ls).

Re: Just visited some friends at GULC
To warn people who want BIGLAW away from GULC ITE. I don't have a comprehensive survey, but I do have sample class ranks and OCI results. Obviously, if you want government, GULC is the bestest but its sad to see people gunning for something they never really wanted (and don't possess the background to get).nealric wrote:So what? In retrospect, maybe this is trolling against GULCs employment prospects and maybe its just trolling against their admissions process, which seems to let in lots of people without any clear idea as to why they want to practice law. I've noticed that this seems to be the case at many large schools.

Re: Just visited some friends at GULC
I figure this is probably common knowledge, though probably not to the people to are always GULC trolling, but the Class of 2009 placed 42.8% into Biglaw (NLJ250), with most of the rest of the T14 placing somewhere in the high 40s or low 50s. GULC's placement was a hair better than Cornell's. Given the handful of possible factors contributing to this discrepancy (higher PI/govt placement, grads gunning for saturdated markets) I just don't see where the "OMG, GeorgeTTTTown is teh dregs!" sentiment comes from. I'm open to any evidence that actually indicates that, but I never see any of these claims really substantiated with anything other than second hand accounts of striking out at OCI.

LOL I bet you could count on one hand the number of schools that don't "let in lots of people without any clear idea as to why they want to practice law."

Thats the first thing I thought when I read this, but then I realized if his friends were anything like OP then it would make sense they struck out at OCI....Moral_Midgetry wrote:I call bullshit. The OP does not have "friends."

A reasonable conclusion except that my other, even more evil friends at other schools got firm jobs.Sandro777 wrote:Thats the first thing I thought when I read this, but then I realized if his friends were anything like OP then it would make sense they struck out at OCI....Moral_Midgetry wrote:I call bullshit. Yes, but GULC and NYU seem to let in more than their fair share (no idea about HLS).Aqualibrium wrote:Veyron wrote:

Since when are NLJ250 stats suspect? Why are they? Not being contentious, genuinely curious.

Just visited some friends at Penn. All the 2Ls were walking around with these dead, hopeless looks in their eyes. Apparently everyone struck out at OCI.

No where in your original post did you give those details. But it was already clear that you had a penchant for making things up, so I'm not surprised.Veyron wrote:... or it would be if you had friends who were upperclassmen at Penn Law and they discussed our OCI with you in depth. Re: Just visited some friends at GULC
Sry, later post. Look buddy, believe what you want to believe. The fact is that lots of great firms in smaller non-coastal markets will treat GULC like any other non T-3 T-14 and take down to median if they like you. However, even if your rank matches your LSAT score I think you'll find OCI unexpectedly challenging, especially if you bid DC (and interview slots are more DC heavy than other schools). But don't let me steal you sunshine.DanInALionsDen wrote:No where in your original post did you give those details. So when someone provides statistics that contradict your point, you question the validity of the stats. When asked why you question their validity, you choose to ignore the question?

Re: Just visited some friends at GULC
A couple things to note here. First, the op is obvious hyperbole and stop taking it so seriously. Second, that nlj number is going to be high for our purposes because that was before the worst of ite. Also, gtown has a huge class so even if they perform the same as cornel it is going to look far worse with 400 people unemployed instead of 100 and that will cause the outside perception to be changed with the sheer number of horror stories.

Re: Just visited some friends at GULC
The question about validity of stats has been addressed on this site ad-nauseum. Only LST has reliable stats and GULC is not an LST member. Indeed, GULC is one of the worst offenders in the T-14 when it comes to fudging the numbers.Marionberry wrote:So when someone provides statistics that contradict your point, you question the validity of the stats. Re: Just visited some friends at GULC
Let's be honest, this thread is more about boosting OP's clearly foundering self-confidence than it is about warning students. Everyone knows that GULC has suffered in the downturn, as has every other school. Don't worry bud, you're a special little person, at a very special school. We all think you're going to do great things with your special life.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
