Can you switch to JD/MBA after attending for just JD?

I applied to a bunch of schools for their JD programs, but am now having thoughts about doing a JD/MBA. Is it possible to transfer into this program once I get there? I didn't take the GMAT. If it is possible, is this process generally easy, or is it very competitive (or at least as competitive as it is to apply for the JD/MBA program from the beginning)? I'm looking at top 5 ~ top 20 schools, if that makes a difference.

The process varies by school.
Most schools will let you apply to the joint program during 1L. Off the top of my head, NYU doesn't require the GMAT and NU doesn't require the LSAT.

As far as I know, every school that offers a joint program also offers 1Ls the opportunity to apply. It is true that NYU may waive the GMAT requirement, but I would imagine you would need a pretty stellar GPA/LSAT to pull that off. NU (Kellogg) does not waive the GMAT for anyone as far as I know, actually they offer GMAT takers the opportunity to apply to the law school but not the other way around.
The big questions are "which school?" and "how much/what kind of work experience?" If you go to a top law program with a mediocre business school it is supposed to be easier than if the business program "outranks" the law school.
