Nightlife in Boston is awesome if you're not black BUT keep in mind the fact that BC law not in Boston, it's like a 45 min T (subway) ride (but the T stops running at 12), and getting a cab at 2am when all the bars close to take you back to BC is damn near impossible

fixed.

You assume that BCLS students actually live in Newton. The majority don't.

To keep us on topic, let's hope OP is white.

By the way - saying night life in Boston sucks if you're black is similar to saying that living in America sucks if you're black. There's an element of truth, but you will probably have to get over it at some point.

Boston is a notoriously racist city, and I say that as someone who has spent most of his life in the deep South. Maybe it's just that I expect it more in a small Mississippi town, as opposed to a large metropolitan area like Boston. Who knows. I just call em like I see em. Anyway, lets get back on topic.

BC 1L. True BC is not in Boston but everyone I know lives in the city and commutes.

First of all - and I hate to be the person who makes this comment first - you may want to reevaluate your genuine interest in law school. Despite how collegiaL BC purportedly is, when you go to a law school where everyone believes (or at least wants to believe) that the top 1/3 can get a legitimate shot at BigLaw after 1L year it is VERY competitive amongst the students; especially because generally everyone believes that they can make top 1/3 if they really try - so they all do. I point this out, not to say that the people at BC aren't friendly or that you won't make good friends, but to clear up any misconceptions about the allegedly laid-back atmosphere at BC. Are people willing to talk about the arguments they are making in their memos? Yes. Are they willing to let you check out their hornbooks? Sure. But let there be no doubts, each and every one of them is gunning for a top spot (at least in the first year) and they are not indifferent to you getting that spot instead of them. Given your admittedly low work-rate in the past, you should seriously reconsider if law school ANYWHERE is the right choice for you. Self-doubts about the value of your undergraduate degree - especially now - is just not a good enough reason to go to law school unless you are extremely confident in your abilities. Of course, I am not saying it is the wrong choice for you; I just hope you are fully appreciating what it is that you are taking on here.
Secondly, it must be said, Boston's party/clubbing scene is wayyyy overrated. As far as I am aware, it doesn't matter where you go out - the lights are still turning on at around 1:30. If nightlife is really your scene then you should be in NYC..... and probably not studying law. Anyways, those are just a couple thoughts that occurred to me as I read through. I hope you find them helpful and not hurtful. Best of luck...

As a BC 1L I must say BC definitely lives up to its collegial reputation. It's sometimes hard to believe we are in law school. You get the occasional bad apple, but on the whole it's a pretty great place to be.

Yeah on the bright side you'll have a full two-thirds of the class to commiserate with when you cannot find a market paying job during 2L fall. I bet it feels really collegial to be one of the lucky minority with a biglaw ticket come October.

i feel law school must be more competitive than college. at least in my college, there are some rich kids who partied all four years but still landed banking gigs because of this or that connection.

during my vandy interview with an amherst alum (great choice b/c we shared lots of similar college experiences), he told me that out of all people he interviewed for his law firm, only BC, UVA and Vandy law grads said they enjoyed law school. I hope that's true!

The most accurate gauge or barometer of the collegiality of law school is this website. As 0Ls and 1Ls everyone has lots of questions and things to share. But by 2L and 3L everyone is so miserable or else busily working and hoping against hope for a biglaw job that they don't come back here to post.
