Mizzou definitely has one of the best facilities in the country as others have already said. What they didn't tell you is that the rec center is basically located right across the street from the law school. It's a two minute walk at the max.

While ASU does have what I would consider a large and relatively well-kept gym, keep in mind it is the only gym (excluding residence hall gyms) for a campus of 50,000 people. Cardio buffs have no problem finding machines, but it gets PACKED if you're a weightlifter there between noon and 10.BlakcMajikc wrote:(reposted and updated)

Bad Gyms:
WUSTL, NYU, Vanderbilt, Berkeley, Michigan, Columbia, Wisconsin, Fordham
Anyone want to add to the list?
They did create a covered outdoor lifting area a year or two ago which helps when it is open (limited hours...plus lifting outside in AZ isn't ideal half the year) though. There are also plans to expand, but that won't even get started in the next year much less finished. The gym is really close to the law school though!

Is Vanderbilt's gym really that bad? It surprises me that an SEC school with that kind of money would have terrible facilities. And I thought I read good things about the student rec center somewhere. Was it just propaganda? Can someone who knows speak to this in detail?

Dear SBL,
Vanderbilt is a founding member of the SEC that is highly, highly competitive in every sport other than football. Look at their baseball team and basketball team every year if you're "into" high profile sports. Check out all of their other athletic programs as well. (You're a douche). So much for being a midget boxer.
You're an athlete hater who hasn't stepped on a field since he got pummeled in 9th grade and now secretly hates anything and everything athletics related. Your hate in the earlier posts about the Berkeley football player is absurd. There are gigantic anti-athletics stigmas at every elite University in this country. Look at any Ivy League school or Berkeley, Stanford, Northwestern, Vandy, etc. The rest of the student body is filled with self-important jackasses like you who think they're better than the athletes because they didn't have help getting into the school, and disregard the benefits you receive - a la these gymnasiums you're talking about - as a result of the revenue generated by athletics programs.
Get over yourself, stop being angry about whatever happened to you and whatever meathead bullied you as a child. It is sad to me that you allow the fact that athletes are admired personalities to bother you so much. Other people are entitled to opinions and are not all "entitled douches" as you so elegantly put it.

UIUC just completed construction (in 2008) overhauling ARC (340,000 sq ft and three floors of sparkling new gym space). 12 racquetball courts, a 35 foot climbing wall, and 3 Olympic length pools (one outdoor). There's a smaller facility on the other side of campus as well.

I got a lot of lulz out of that post. I've been called a lot of things in my time, but this might be a first for the whole pencil-necked geek who's scared of athletes angle.JazzOne wrote:lollawfuture10 wrote:Dear SBL,

The irony here is I'm a huge sports fan, I just think Vandy blows (and let's be honest, nobody cares about NCAA baseball) and athletes shouldn't badmouth their own fans (re that entitled Cal football guy from a few pages ago).

LOL, while I agree to a point, shooting is not as easy as people think. But, it wasn't rifle or anything like that. While my sport wasn't football or basketball, i'll assure you, it is something that requires quite a bit of athletic ability.JakeL wrote:Ex division one athlete at top 25.... means nothing when you were on an NCAA rifle team. Re: Bro, which law schools have wicked gyms?
I did my undergrad there and was appalled at Coles, but I really liked Palladium. The thing is, though, that the law school is only a couple blocks from Coles, and (as mentioned above) about a 15 minute walk from Palladium, which is all the way up at Union Square. So if you want to fit a workout in between classes, I'm guessing most would be more likely to go Coles than to hike all the way up to Palladium. So really, unless you're very dedicated to having an aesthetically pleasing gym experience, you'll probably end up in the crappy gym, anyway.180orbust wrote:Yeah, Coles is pretty old school, but Palladium is very nice. Its about a 15 minute walk from the law school. Rock-climbing wall, olympic pool, diving, basketball court, spin room, small but adequate weight room. I wouldn't say that Palladium is a fantastic gym, but neither is it "bad." You won't feel like you need to join a gym if you live near campus, I'll put it that way.BlakcMajikc wrote:180orbust wrote:I don't think NYU's gyms are bad. Not a fan of the Coles Center, but the Palladium looks nice. Do law school students use it or is it close to the law school? with more info, maybe Ill move NYU to the good side...

The presence of the Strom Center should push South Carolina back into the Top 100.
