Good Fit/Advice

Post by catisland2010 » Fri Dec 17, 2010 2:40 pm

I'm looking for advice on schools that would be attracted to me/a good fit. Mu UG GPA is low 3.0 (I partied and did really bad the first year and a half) but my major GPA/last 60 credits is decent. I'm 22 and have URM status and will graduate with an MA is psych this August. I plan on applying Fall 11. I have done undergraduate research and presented at conferences, I am active on campus, and have a good internship. My GPA for grad school is a 3.8, will schools give this a lot of weight? I haven't taken the LSAT yet, but will in June.

Thanks in advance

You pretty much need to get an LSAT score before people can help you.

Schools see grad school as a soft. Your good GPA there is nice, but it won't really change how they see (or have to report) your UG GPA.

edit: It's good to be planning ahead! Put a lot of work in to your LSAT prep, get a high score, apply early, and profit. Especially with URM status you will be fine. If you really want to look at specific schools, you can start now, but I would definitely wait until you get an idea of where you are capable of scoring. It's rough to get your heart set on a school that you won't get in to! (aka this happened to me)

Well shoot for a LSAT 171+ so you will be above 75ths of some of the t14.

What URM are you? If you are AA, NA, MA, or PA, then getting to 170+ should get you into the lower mid T-14. If otherwise, you would need a few points more to have a shot there.

all schools will care about is GPA, LSAT, and URM. Other than that, fit is all up to how you feel after researching, visiting, talking to students, etc. You're 2/3rds there with the killer GPA and URM status. Just slay the LSAT, like the above posters say, and you'll have some great options.
