It has nothing to do with your race. It's your particular brand of spurious argument style (which essentially boils down to accusing others of immaturity and overreliance on USNWR, shitting on NYU generally, and pulling out the race card left and right).BruceWayne wrote:You've got to make up your mind. I'm not so sure the advantage is this large and that it isn't offset by related problems:rayiner wrote:It's okay. 1. Their class is very large.
2. If big law is defined as all major non-NYC markets, NYU's performance is weaker than several of T7-14's after accounting for class size and the percentage of students it sends to secondary and tertiary markets.
3. Even looking at NYC placement, the large contingent of students staying in New York seems to leave the top of the class much better off than the rest, to an greater extent than schools that send students to many different markets or aren't located in a major market, or both.
4. They struggle with AIII clerkships.
5. They have various prestige-related issues (they have a close competitor they've played second fiddle to for decades, the reputation of (some of) their undergrad, they can't sell themselves as the Harvard of lower Manhattan, etc).

That's completely false. There are Black people at NYU, and they don't go out of there way to find every opportunity to cry abut how unfair it is that NYU does well by its graduates.BruceWayne wrote:You've got to make up your mind. LMAO at a closet racist complaining about someone's personality! So you are bragging about the fact that you can achieve less than your peers and still get a job because solely based on race? You stay classy now. And it's funny you blame other people for being racist when you are the one who wants to isolate yourself by pointing out your race consistently.BruceWayne wrote:Nah, I'll probably end up in DC considering I know multiple URMs barely above median here (some below) with DC jobs lined up. Congrats on taking my statement out of context. Clearly telling someone that they will get poor grades because they said that there isn't a meaningful difference in placment between two different schools is very classy (as raiyner did). Interesting how you jump on my respone as being really unclassy, and just brush over what he posted. Not surprised though, TLS has a big anti URM sentiment.Patriot1208 wrote:So you are bragging about the fact that you can achieve less than your peers and still get a job because solely based on race? Your posts sound like "2 + 2 = Chair." Honestly. I never said you'd get poor grades. I said you wouldn't get grades good enough to clerk. There is an 85% chance of that being true.BruceWayne wrote:Congrats on taking my statement out of context. Although that's a reasonable point, you and I both know that you did not mean it in a practical realistic way, but rather a typical TLS "I'm going to bask in your failure like a Jackass way". This is particularly likely considering the context.rayiner wrote:Your posts sound like "2 + 2 = Chair." Honestly. I never said you'd get poor grades. My comment was simply to point out that you will likely not get clerkship-level grades, just like 85% of your classmates. So arguing about which school has a few % better clerkship placement is completely pointless*. The same thing is true for placement in Cali, etc. Yeah sure, NYU might not place any better in Cali than say UVA, but the Cali market is a disaster and accounts for very few jobs overall. NYU is still placed 2/3 of its class into big law last year, which is what matters in the end and is a figure that UVA, Michigan, etc, can't touch.
*) It's especially pointless because the year-to-year variance in clerkship placement is like 5%. A lot of people who could get a clerkship don't do so because they want corporate work and don't want to give up a year's salary. So depending on people's preferences in any given year the actual number fluctuates a lot. Eg: I know NU's clerkships numbers are up substantially for C/O 2010 because of the economy.

I find you to be a know it all and overly focused on arbitrary rankings differences, but again most law students at top schools share the same traits.
You missed a lot of my point in regards to the whole top 6 thing NYU etc. I did not mention clerkships, govt, non NY jobs as a way to brag about placement. I did it to highlight that this TLS infatuation with one school being number 6 and the others being number 7 is just an over obsession with the rankings. There just isn't this big difference in some of these schools that you all are implying. The reality is that in real life going to school number 6 over school number 7 just doesn't matter all that much in the grand scheme of things (except in the narrow situation of preferring to work in NYC and choosing school 7 over school 6). Grades, connections, all sorts of other outside factors are going to come into play, not just "OMG I went to school 6 and not one of those shitty 7-14 schools" that a lot of TLS 3000+ posters like to pass off. I've met far too many people here at UVA who came out fine for me to believe that garbage. Not to mention when you talk to practicing attorneys they would look at you like you were some sort of freak if you started fussing about going to a "top 6" as opposed to Boalt etc. Forgive me, but for some strange reason I put more weight on a practicing attorney than people who frequent online message boards.
Definitely, I'll translate to your native tongue and give you some familiar context: "Gosh darn uncle Jeb, dat dere kiss sure felt good!"D. jesus h christ dbrooks, no one is saying USNWR rankings change job placement prospects. they are saying that certain schools have much stronger prospects than others. for example, boalt places like shit compared to columbia, NYU and chicago. USNWR does not make it so, it just happens to be correlated with hiring realities.BruceWayne wrote: I find you to be a know it all and overly focused on arbitrary rankings differences, but again most law students at top schools share the same traits.

Because your arguments are garbage.BruceWayne wrote:You missed a lot of my point in regards to the whole top 6 thing NYU etc.
You mention all sorts of things: attorney opinions, small variation in clerkship placement, placement in markets with no jobs, etc, that just don't matter.
At the end of the day, law school is professional school. People go to law school to get a job. What matters, then, is how many people get the kind of high-paying jobs that they presumably came to law school to get. All the concrete data I have shows NYU absolutely killing it in that regard.

You are honestly the worst person on TLS at forging arguments.
