I have heard bad things about the quality of education at UBaltimore from transfers- that's just anecdotal though.

I'd go for UMD.

But i'm clearly not as debt adverse as some other people are.

What is the price for UMD in-state? Can you live at home to save COL $? Do you have a daytime job to make $?

Unless you're assured of a job when you get out I'd be inclined to say UMD

So you're looking at 70-80k for a degree from a lower T1... that's a tough call. Seems a little steep, unless you can use some of your money from your job to pay tuition as well and get it down to 50k or so.

I mean, you work at a law firm. What is the perception of U Balt in the city? Don't you have some lawyers you could talk to about this?

That's not bad. I'd take the UMD offer... but I do think you should ask some of the attorneys at your firm what they think. Also, make sure to continue to use them and keep the relationship as good as possible because even if they won't be able to give you a job, they will probably know people who will .

I think this is what it hinges on. While I have heard bad things about UBalt, I don't live/work in Maryland and its legal sector. If you think UBalt can compete with UMaryland then go to UBalt, if not then go to UMaryland.

i am not sure. i am still leaning towards UB. i received 5k from MD in grants. over four years that would about equal 1 yr of what ub is offering. since UB is offering a scholarship i could lose it after 1st year.

whoa whoa whoa...your scholly has a stipulation? What is it?

If it's anything tougher than a 2.0 that changes everything and I say go with Maryland.

it's likely that you'll lose your scholly after your first year. if that happens, the two will cost the same. go with maryland. it seems like it takes being in the top 25% of your class to make 65k/yr or more and at least 1/3 of the class makes ~45k/yr in the public sector, but paying just 50k in tuition for a law degree probably makes it worth it.

A 3.25 stipulation is nothing to sneeze at...that's a solid GPA, probably top third, depending on your school. But a B+ average is doing VERY well in law school and you certainly can't count on keep that...

I vote unequivocally for Maryland.
