UC Irvine OCI List

Post by DarkwingDick » Fri Jun 11, 2010 4:18 pm

Thoughts on UCI's OCI list?

Does this group include fairly impressive firms and agencies? (And by impressive, I mean firms and agencies where it is highly competitive to land a position.)

The list is less impressive than I had expected (I don't mean to start a war here). How does this list compare to, say, G-town? By my browsing the NALP site, it would seem that G-Town is way better. Not even in the ballpark, right? Still though, there are some very nice big law firms on Irvine's list.

To be honest, the list impresses me; you've got all the major players from LA coming. the bigger question for me is whether these firms are coming for show or if they have any intent of hiring kids from the school. And, if they indeed are serious about taking a candidate from UCI, how the hell are they going to recruit from a class of ~70 kids. What's "median" fucking mean in a class that teeny tiny? Top 10% vs top 15% is being #7 vs being #11 ?

I admit that I don't know LA firms that well, but I just thought that Irvine would pull from around the country (they do have a few firms from out east on the list--even one from Kansas City, but just not as many as I had expected). 70 applicants is a small number, so that could be good for the students at Irvine.

I don't think class rank will be used as a factor. If I remember correctly, UCI students are expressly verboten from revealing their class rank for employment purposes.

It can be inferred right? You do have grades that are on a curve yes?

So are students from Northwestern. Doesn't mean you can't figure it out.
