Illinois $$$ v WashU $

Post by zILch » Fri Jun 04, 2010 8:09 pm

Is this even close? I've been leaning IL the whole time, but a few people have told me they think the extra prestige and the fact that I don't know for sure where I want to work (though I'm from the midwest and fine staying in the region) legitimizes paying extra at Wash U.

Thoughts?

Illinois has lower COL, so the total COA difference will be close to $80k over 3 years. Take the money and run!

The COL difference is marginal at best, especially if you live smart in St. Louis. I will be paying 500 a month for a fully furnished, bad ass apartment near WUSTL.

That said, take the Illinois offer. (And this is coming from someone who turned down a full ride at UIUC for a lesser offer at WUSTL.)

Extra prestige? As what a rancid ranking whore school

These schools are as close to peers as one can get. Take the money. Unless you get WUSTL to match.

If you're paying for your own education (tuition + living expenses), then you'd be crazy to go to WUSTL.

I feel like it's Deja Vu...are there STILL that many people out there deciding on WUSTL?? That bodes well for the WLers...

Go to Illinois!! THEY GIVE YOU SO MUCH MOULA!!!....

Seriously...way more money at a peer school, not even close. I'm WLed at both schools and I would take the Illinois offer 100%...I'm hoping to get in to either!

PS: How come you're making this decision now? Have you paid both tuition deposits twice now, just to buy more time???
