UCLA ($) vs. NU sticker

Post by raspberryfruitcake » Sat May 01, 2010 7:03 pm

Which school should I choose??

UCLA will be around $28K/year for me (In-state + tiny scholarship)
NU will be $47K/year (no scholarship, just got off wait list)

I *think* I want to practice corporate law, but I am not sure.
I don't have a particular geographical preference.

I have 8 hours to decide! Help!!

Lol I will troll NU, but this one is accurate. Replace NU with Duke, Penn, Mich, or Uva and I'd say the same.

Are you factoring in the giant tuition increases schedule at UCLA for the 2011 and 2012 school years?

It's only two times as expensive when you don't factor in living cost, and opportunity cost.

then I'm confused...

usually people who live in California are a little hesitant to move to snowy places. Please don't say you think it'd be a nice change. Chicago gets really really cold, and snow is cool for about 3 days, and then it just sucks.

Picking law schools in terms of weather is really stupid unless its a tiebreaker.

Yeah...personal comfort doesn't mean shit  Your priorities are out of whack, hombre.

OP, just trying to make sure you do a reality check about your personal preferences before going to the #2 school in a smaller market at a higher price.

Spot on. Also, I'm not sure Northwestern is THAT much of a leap to justify the extra cost (plus all of the non-tuition factors you haven't included.)

Yeah, it's definitely priority to make sure you're cozy in your living room every evening even if it means your opportunities are cut short for the rest of your life. Also don't go to NU because it's behind UofC, as demonstrated by the latest NLJ250 hiring numbers.

Go to UCLA. Make less money, work fewer hours, feel better about yourself and surf nine months of the year. You'll go to bed with your skin still tingling from the sun and the electric attitude of a city without a concern everyday and love your life. The east seems like a sad, cold and lonely place.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
