Penn is winning!
Yea, NYU doesn't really impress me so much, especially relative to Chicago.

I dunno if it's fair to judge a school based on a single day. Also, most of those people you saw won't be your classmates like your fellow 0Ls. And let me tell you tintin, we're pretty dang cool.

Well I'm sure you won't be the only gay person at UChi. And if you are, I'm sure your classmates won't be assholes to you for it (I mean UChi isn't Regent/ND or anything). And if they are, I know for a fact there are tons of gay people in Chicago itself.

That said, I can understand why you would want to be in a more comfortable environment, and Chicago the city probably isn't as outwardly accepting as Philly is, which has attempted to fashion itself an east-coast San Francisco over the last few years.

Basically, I think you're making too big a deal out of it, but if you really think you would be the only gay person in Chicago or wouldn't have a social life, you should probably go wherever you're most comfortable.

Go to Chicago. This shouldn't even be a question. Chicago is far superior for academia and clerkships and, perhaps especially, West Coast job placement. I personally know a recent grad who is gay, was not on law review, and is starting a desirable district court clerkship in Chicago. (Did you see the American Constitution Society is doing a series on Don't Ask, Don't Tell this quarter? http://www.law.uchicago.edu/taxonomy/term/174.) Boystown is awesome and the advantage of being at a small school is you'll know all the 3L gays immediately and they will invite you to fun parties. I didn't visit Chicago before I came and I wouldn't have been impressed by the average 1L if I had visited. But a 180 person class is plenty big enough to find people you'll click with. And you might get to like going to classes in a Saarinen building.

Go. To. Chicago. You will regret it if you don't. Feel free to PM for more arguments.

Congrats tintin! I didn't see this thread until today, but I would've voted for Chicago. When in doubt, I think it's a good idea to go to the best law school you get into.
