24 hours to decide between American PT (sticker) or Brooklyn

Postby msh342 » Thu Apr 22, 2010 4:40 pm

Brooklyn is FT and $12k / year.

I just got off the waitlist for American and now they only gave me 24 hours to decide.... Originally American was my dream-school....I was crushed when I was waitlisted...now I am sort of meh about it.

As well you should be.

Don't get mad when I ask you, but what are your numbers, when did you apply, do you have a job, and do you think you could do better on the LSAT if you got another chance?

I got a 161 LSAT and had a 3.62 UGPA. I'm not sure if I'd improve me score, it would probably peak around 163-164...I got a 163 a few times on the practice tests.

My putting a deposit down for American hinges on whether I can defer the acceptance / go to FT after a year.

This is a tough one. Where do you want to practice? When did you apply? What do you want to do with your degree?

Not the advice you want to hear, but with a 3.62 GPA, you owe it to yourself to get the LSAT up at least to a 164. I am extremely bearish on American (especially it's hefty tuition and employment prospects). You've picked two very similar schools in their respective (enormous) markets. You'd better think long and hard about the investment vs. likely returns at either of those schools. If I had to pick one, I suppose it would be Brooklyn, because I think NYC is a slightly less competitive market (although this really is 1A and 1B) and therefore your odds of actually getting a decent job may be better. But it is marginal. This really comes down to your preference for NY or DC. The schools are really similar in a lot of ways here (huge cost, uncertain job prospects, 4th best school in the area, etc..., market additionally saturated by t10 grads).

please retake! a 163 will get you much better options!

but if you must rush into LS right now I'd say go to Brooklyn for the legal market.
