UC Davis vs. Loyola LA (84K) vs. Pepperdine (15K)
Need some help!! As for now, I'm interested in PI, but who knows if I'll stay that way. The scholarships at Loyola and Pepperdine are contingent upon being in the top third.
Most people receive a 10k grant from Davis, but would paying close to full price for Davis be worth it?
Give me some input! Thanks!

I'd certainly say so. Don't forget 2 things: the top thirds always get grouped into the same section, and Davis has a pretty good LRAP program. Besides that, Davis is focused on PI, and is just better. I'd go with Davis all the way!

GO with Davis, too much competition in an over saturated market for the other two schools, and Pepperdine is just scary t go to with its placement/COL+tuition ratio.

I know rankings aren't everything...but please, go to Davis. Definitely don't go to Pepperdine with only 15k.

Thanks for advice. Yeah, I'd probably make it out of Davis with less debt than Pepperdine just with the difference in COL alone!

You'd be surprised how many people get lovely, attractive scholarship offers from Loyola and Pepperdine. Of course, only a few of them will actually ever see the money...
Davis.
Davis.

Yeah, that would be my worst fear, go to Loyola or Pepperdine and lose the scholarship.ViP wrote:You'd be surprised how many people get lovely, attractive scholarship offers from Loyola and Pepperdine. Of course, only a few of them will actually ever see the money...

I think you have to choose Davis in this situation, at least if you would be happy working in Northern Ca. LA is a very saturated market and Loyola and Pepperdine just can't compete with schools like UCLA/USC very well. Good luck with your decision.

Update - Waiting to get the official letter but from what I found online, I'll be receiving a 12K a year need based grant at Davis.

Completely false (if you mean that people w/scholarships are section stacked), and damn near incoherent(if you mean its possible to stack a section according to grades they haven't received yet). However, you should go to Davis w/ the 12K. Congrats!Teoeo wrote:Don't forget: the top thirds always get grouped into the same section

Davis is by far the superior of these three schools.

I meant the former, and I don't see why you say it is false, it is a common practice. I admit, however, that they claim that they don't do it at Loyola, but I really don't buy it.1ferret! wrote:Completely false (if you mean that people w/scholarships are section stacked), and damn near incoherent(if you mean its possible to stack a section according to grades they haven't received yet). UC Davis is the correct choice.
1) If you go into PI, pick the best school, since IBR will pay your loans.
2) You can't count on a top-third scholarship.

Davis is looking great, and from what I've heard, they do have an awesome LRAP.

How much debt at UC Davis? In my opinion 120k should be the absolute max for a non T20 school.
UC schools are too expensive. I chose Hastings last year but if I were choosing this year I would probably take the scholarship at Loyola or USD.

If the tuition forecasts are true, my debt will be somewhere around 110K when I graduate from Davis. God I hate thinking about that! Everytime I think of that number, I want to take my T2 full ride...ugh

I think you are okay. Try to get a PT job during your 2nd and 3rd years. I am going to try and work at the library next year. $11/hr aint bad for study hallyo! wrote:If the tuition forecasts are true, my debt will be somewhere around 110K when I graduate from Davis. Davis is the best, even without the rankings consideration. It depends where you want to live. Don't go to Davis if you only want to live in LA. Don't go to Davis if you aren't willing to work in Sacramento.
