Is Fordham REALLY that much better for NYC than BU?? Forum

Topic says it all. I know it sounds like im trolling BU, but I'm just trying to make the best decision possible. Im not 100% sure I want NYC ite anyway but lets ignore that for now. I'm sure I cant be the only one thinking this (or something similar--i.e. UCLA, USC, Vandy, UT vs Fordham)

If price is the same, I can't see why you wouldn't pick Fordham if you want to be in NYC. That being said, BU claims that they consistently place about 1/3 of their class in the mid-Atlantic. So by no means will going to BU preclude you from breaking into NYC. Are you talking about 2 sticker price offers? Or did BU give you a scholarship while Fordham didn't?

Well the first response wasn't saying that BU is better for NYC. i think he just meant that BU is better than Fordham in general.

BU will give you better opportunities overall and can give you a decent shot at NYC, but if you are deadset on NYC, Fordham will maximize your chances there.

BU gave 45k, Fordham gave 30k (both after re-negotiation) I looked at cost of attendance/living for both, BU will run be around 132k and Fordham will be about 180k, so BU is 48k cheaper.

For NYC, definitely Fordham. Use the opportunity to network while you're there as much as possible. Actually being in the city you want to work gives you huge advantages over similar peer schools elsewhere, if you're smart/ambitious enough to take advantage of the opportunities it gives.

Thanks for the reply, this is what I was thinking. I guess I'm just concerned at how much better fordham will be for nyc placement. I live around NYC and wouldn't mind staying after graduation, but again im a little nervous about being tied down here.

This. BU seems to get more firms from around the country, but Fordham is way better for NYC. Do a Martindale search if you need confirmation. I just got our OCI list and went .

Neither school carries the name prestige that similarly ranked schools carry, but Fordham does extremely well and significantly better in NYC. Both location and connections to the university are very helpful.

Fordham will always be TCR for New York if you aren't going to a T14.

Hey, you already know I am in the same boat as you ... your thread caught my eye

My thing is that I really like BU because of the campus, the people I met there, and Boston. But I want to work in a city, prioritized in the following order: SD, LA, NYC, Boston, DC. Since I am out of CA schools, San Diego and LA are bumped (for the most part) and I am left with: NYC, Boston, DC. I don't really care for Fordham except that it is closer to SO (in NYC). BU is very nice, but Fordham is so good for NYC.

People keep giving the same advice ... I am going to flip a coin next week if this keeps up b/c I can't decide!

Yea same here...I literally cannot decide. I LIKE BU better, but like you said, Fordham is so good for NYC. I'm thinking I may just 'risk' BU's nyc placement and go there for the possibility of more options/higher rank...i think?

Btw, I would def like to study in Boston, but couldnt see myself working/living there long term.

im in the EXACT same situation + on like 4 waitlists. so unsure! but also want to like BU more despite not being able to ignore Fordham for nyc
