UIUC because that is near full ride, and you cannot lose it. It's also arguably the best you've gotten into.

UChi over all if you get it.

I would love to work in the Chicago area and appreciate a strong Hispanic population + love the mid west.

Oooh, interesting... Helpful, as my first deposit is due Monday and I'm still unsure.

I'll only post the ones I'm considering:

Fordham - 15k/yr
U of Minnesota - 20k/yr
UCLA - ...5k/yr (veeery helpful, I know)

If possible, I'd like to get back to the northeast to work. UCLA has been my #1 for a while, but 70k/yr in debt is really impossible to do. I asked for money and they offered 5k/yr. Not very significant. I don't want to end up in Minnesota, but I wonder about the prospects of getting out and I'd have little to no debt if I went there (my dad offered to help with that school because he's really biased against UCLA :( ).

If by Northeast you mean NYC, then Fordham. If your Dad will actually pay for Minn, nut up and live there after school. It's a nice city.

I'm interested in patent law and prefer to stay in the NY/NJ/CT area.

Depends on what you want to practice: if you take Illinois and don't get Chicago BigLaw (a very reasonable possibility), are you ok settling into another legal job with less debt? If so, Illinois.

If you are dead set on BigMoneyOrBust, take GULC. GULC places into a lot of secondary markets Illinois doesn't touch.

FTR: in your shoes, I'd take Illinois, but it depends on your goals and what you'd be happy with.

Columbia (Sticker)
Berkeley (pending $45k matching scholarship)

OR: stay at my job, retake the LSAT, and try to improve upon my YLS and HLS waitlists...

I want to clerk and/or go into public interest; don't know where i want to practice

Extra points: does anyone know columbia's deferral policy? i.e., can i reapply to YLS and HLS in the fall if i defer CLS?

Narrowed it down to two:

UVa (instate + $20,000/year)
Columbia (assuming sticker)

Went to UVa undergrad and enjoyed Cville; currently in DC. Wouldn't mind Biglaw in NYC or DC. Slightly interested in clerkships and not terribly debt averse, but $72K/year does make me think twice.

If you are sure you want PI, and you get 45K Berk.

Else CLS.

Exactly. Instate knocks off $5K plus decreased COL, so UVa would be about $30K/Year cheaper.

Are you a slacker? If so CLS is safer, but otherwise 90K is worth the degraded safety at OCI.

<<< thinks Columbia is well worth the 90k investment

Have you read up on IBR DF? It actually makes taking on debt seem a lot more manageable and less frightening. According the the site if you have a shitton of debt you could technically still qualify for IBR if you were making 100k/year. Of course, sure, having less debt is probably better in the long run, but always something to keep in the back of your mind.

LRAP only counts for PI, and he wants big law.

90K is two years of harsh savings while working big law. It certainly is a risk, but one I think is worth taking.

See edit, I put LRAP but meant Income Based Repayment.

I am definitely not a slacker. I guess we're working under the assumption that if I can land Biglaw out of UVa, take UVa, if not, take CLS for the safe(r) bet?

Yes.

MisterGof might be right. CLS will make this a less risky prospect. Would you pay 90K more better chances at OCI? It's a tough call.
