please make a Case for one of my options

Postby newlaw77 » Wed Apr 14, 2010 12:26 pm

I am making my decision tonight.

Background info:

My GPA will be going up .08 this semester. bringing it from 3.4$ - 3.5@
I believe I can bring my lsat score up a few points
LSAt is 163-165

I want to work in NYC
I am not sure exactly what I want to do:

My passion- election law
My in- entertainment law
or
Big money + big debt = big law

So I have narrowed down my choices to:

Ohio State
Cardozo
Reapply- not sure what to do in the year off?

Please make a case for one of these options.

There's not enough information. What's your LSAT score? With your >3.5 GPA, if you have a 170+ you could go T14 next cycle with the right PS/LORs, etc. But if your LSAT is currently 155-160 and a 168+ is not in the cards, that's a different story.

But if you retake and get a big score, you could be dialing for some big dollars at the same schools you're talking about now. That extra time could win you $100,000 or a free ride.

So... more info.

get 175+ on LSAT and go to NYU/Columbia. Backup option is Cornell if you can only pull a 170. Otherwise, forget biglaw/nyc.

I looked at ur other posts, and if you only studied a month for the LSAT and got a 164, RETAKE and wait a year. Focus on your studying and definitely spend more than a month on it, you are close enough to gain at least a few more points.
Even if you don't mention to get CLS/NYU, a few more points will likely get you Fordham which is a much better option for NYC biglaw than Cardozo.
Also, as gymboree said, a 170+ will put you in reach for other T14s, and plenty of those schools have great placement in NYC (aka UVA... trolling here, yes I know :) )

Good luck!

Thanks for your responses, I have been leaning towards taking a year off for a while now.

I'm just unsure what to do as far as what kind of job to look for and improving my law school app
Also unsure when to take the LSAT
how to deal with having a girlfriend who is transferring undergrad to cornell(a few hours away) while I'm being a bum at home with my parents

any advice will be appreciated
