USC v. UConn

Postby afghan007 » Sun Apr 11, 2010 11:38 am

Approximate debt includes scholarship/grant awards. (18K a year at USC.. in-state + 5K scholarship + 10K grant at (UConn)

From CT and I prefer the East Coast, but believe the opportunities out of USC over UConn outweigh my east coast bias. Not sure exactly what I want to do with JD, but once again I'm under the impression that USC outclasses UConn in postgrad options.

100K of debt + unfamiliar CA environment worthy of extra prestige at USC?

In this case, I think USC is significantly better to where it's worth taking on the extra debt to go there. If you had to pay sticker at USC, it'd be a tougher choice, but with the money you're getting there, it's worth it imo. USC will give you so many more options after school - if you really want to go back east and make that your priority, you certainly will be able to, and you never know, you might end up falling in love with California. Definitely visit the school if you haven't already though; that should give you a better idea of whether you'd be ok with spending 3 years there.

strange mix of schools...

i'm scratching my head as to why GW/BU/BC/Fordham/Emory/(insert any other school ranked 19-50) weren't considered if you had a preference for the east coast

I'm still waiting on fordham and cornell, but i definitely agree. I didn't come across TLS until late Feb or so, and was generally misinformed about the application process up until then (i.e. only applied to schools that sent me waivers). So, I could also come back next cycle to put some more stake on the east.

I would re-do it all next year and see. Might open up a ton more options for you.
