Rutgers-Camden VS. University of Oregon ($5,000 Scholarship)

Postby Alwaysmile618 » Fri Apr 09, 2010 7:15 pm

Hi TLS folks, thanks for all the great info you guys usually provide.
Just wanted to hit you guys up with an opinion poll as the dead line for the first seat deposit draws near.

I have been accepted at the University of Oregon as a dean's merit scholar with (5k a year) as well Rutgers-Camden. (waited listed at newark & pitt)
Camden is currently at a sticker price.

I do prefer living and hoping to practice on the east coast, and don't have much financial issues. However, I visited Camden and was horrified at the neighborhood around the school. (Gloomy, Snowy day only made it so much worse)

So I'm just asking for an opinion
Thanks

1). You could always wait and reapply to schools next year.

2). You can save the cash and go to the west coast.

3). Deal with the community in NJ and pay full-price for Rutgers.

I would do #2. I will say I'm biased against NJ anyway, but I just think paying sticker at Rutgers would be a bad choice. What were your numbers? Is there anyway you could apply to more/different schools next year? There are really great schools on the east coast you could get money from and that wouldn't be in such a bum area.

comparing these two schools makes no sense.

@ Gymnast0206 - hating on new jersey might be fashionable, but its retarded. i grew up in the 2nd richest county per capita in the nation. no complaints.

@inSouthAmerica

Could you perhaps explain yourself a bit?

Biased against, doesn't mean I'm "hating on" it. I lived in Manhattan for a number of years, and I simply never preferred New Jersey. On the other hand, I have a lot of family in Oregon and found Portland more hospitable than my time spent in NJ. I say I'm biased, because I am and I felt I needed to be honest. You're clearly biased, as well, which is fine. To each his (or in my case her) own.
