Georgetown to NYC Biglaw

Post by nax425 » Wed Mar 24, 2010 2:05 pm

Can someone go to Georgetown and get into NYC biglaw? What would one have to do?

I've been accepted to Gtown at sticker and I'm hesitant to pay that given the economy and my goals to be in NYC as opposed to DC. But NYU and Columbia are playing hard to get...haven't heard yet/seem destined for waitlist/reject pile.

I want a good chance at paying off my law school debt. Weigh in if you would...

I am going to NYC Biglaw from Georgetown. (3L)
I was median after 1st semester, but did much better 2nd semester. Secondary journal.

More people seem to be NYC bound than anywhere else. It seems like most people I know are taking the NY bar- and a good percentage of the firms at OCI were from NYC. As far as paying the bills, who knows with the economy.

GULC does have a decent LRAP program if Biglaw doesn't work out and you don't mind public interest. At the same time, if the only thing you could possibly imagine yourself doing is NYC biglaw, then you should be holding out for HYS.
