Look at Iowa's placement in Chicago, UIUC is such much better.itsmytime10 wrote:I want to work in chicago and i have a 50% scholarship at UIUC and a Full ride at Iowa.
True, but a full ride is hard to turn down.cr073137 wrote:Look at Iowa's placement in Chicago, UIUC is such much better.itsmytime10 wrote:I want to work in chicago and i have a 50% scholarship at UIUC and a Full ride at Iowa.
A couple years ago this would have been an easier decision. UIUC is better than Iowa for Chicago, by a considerable margin. But during last OCI, even being top10% and being on law review wasn't safe to get big law at UIUC.itsmytime10 wrote:True, but a full ride is hard to turn down.cr073137 wrote:Look at Iowa's placement in Chicago, UIUC is such much better.itsmytime10 wrote:I want to work in chicago and i have a 50% scholarship at UIUC and a Full ride at Iowa.
Good Point. At this point i am leaning towards Iowa.TCS wrote:I don't know why you'd turn down a full ride to a comparably ranked school, unless you really love UIUC or the idea of Chicago biglaw... in which case I'd start working on your transfer to U Chicago or Northwestern. Apples to apples, I prefer UIUC by far, but a full ride to Iowa is pretty damn good.
Placement statistics are no guarantee of success. A full ride is a guarantee that you're going to make it out of law school $100K richer than your peers.
I went to UIUC for undergrad, love the school, probably would have gone there for law school if NU didn't work out, and I'd still go Iowa if I were you.itsmytime10 wrote:Good Point. To reiterate a previous suggestion. Call up Dean Pless at Illinois and talk about how'd you really prefer Illinois, but the full ride is impossible to pass up and see if you can't get you a better scholarship. This isn't rude it is normal. And it is the smart thing to do.itsmytime10 wrote:Thanks DFDesert Fox wrote:I went to UIUC for undergrad, love the school, probably would have gone their for law school if NU didn't work out, and I'd still go Iowa if I were you.itsmytime10 wrote:

There are a couple of things that makes me think i can get biglaw in Chicago...Z3RO wrote:I'm gonna come out and say it: odds of getting Chi big law are slim in either case. I don't think I would spend much money to keep that door cracked open.
If you can tolerate living in Iowa for the next large chunk of your life, go with Iowa. Hell, you won't even need to make that much there compared to COL difference you'll pay in Chicago while you eat the employment scraps that fall from the T14 saturated table.
Good Luck..I wasnt too lucky.JayTal wrote:I'm actually in the same situation and sent a letter to UIUC asking if they wouldn't reconsider my file for possible more money. Here's to hoping!
Well that really does muddy the waters.itsmytime10 wrote:There are a couple of things that makes me think i can get biglaw in Chicago...Z3RO wrote:I'm gonna come out and say it: odds of getting Chi big law are slim in either case.
