Top Law Schools

Rutgers Camden with a scholly and in-state tuition, come out with no debt or Villanova with no help, come out with 60 in debt? What should I do? Is Nova worth the extra $$?

This is a no brainer. Rutgers isn't that bad and Villanova isn't that good.

I absolutely hated Villanova when I visited last April. The best thing about it was the, at the time unfinished, new building. Even in its skeletal state it was obvious it was gonna be the best law facility in the country. Everything else about it was unappealing, and in some cases repulsive, to me.

I never visited Rutgers-Camden as I was, if I can be so presumptuous, YP'ed there. I know a current 3L who cannot find a job to save her life even though she is in the top 20ish%.

I'd take the money and run. I don't know 'Nova's placement stats, but I can't imagine they are doing any better than Rut-C. At least if jobs are sill an issue when you finish, you won't have to worry about paying back loans if you go to Rut-C.

I agree with this. Take the money. You'll be very happy you did when you graduate with little-to-no debt.

Take the money. At least that way it will give you some leeway to figure out a job situation if things are still as tough then as they are now.

What are the stipulations on the scholarship. I received (I'm guessing) a similar one and I have reservations about what's required to keep it.

And I have yet to find any details on the Rutgers median GPA as it related to keeping my scholarship

Need to keep a 3.5 for one amount and it drops 33% if I fall to a 3.33. I spoke to a few of my friends that go there and they feel it won't be easy to get a 3.5 but a 3.33 does not seem out of the question. This opinion was repeated to me when I went on a campus tour with a 3L and he said that most students awarded a scholarship are able to keep it, although it is his job to sell the school so who knows (run-on I know). Did your scholarship come with a similar stipulation? What have you been hearing?

Pretty sure we have the same one (ish). I'm going to the Dean's Day and it's on the forefront of my mind. They're an appealing option, especially when you combine an additional 10k discount with instate tuition in years 2+3

I will be there as well, pretty sure I will be at Rutgers next year and have already sent in a seat deposit, but trying to get a feel as to weather or not Nova is worth the price difference... the general opinion seems to be Rutgers and I don't necessarily disagree.

I'm stilling pending at 'Nova, but without a scholarship, I can't justify sticker price at Nova. Temple on the other hand will be a tough decision in my mind. I'm waiting to get a feel for the school first before I really make any decisions.

Rutgers-gives you the Philly market, lock on NJ market, cheaper tuition, and mobility up to NYC

Whoa, that's a pretty intense GPA restriction. What is the median/curve at Rutgers? If it is a 3.0 I would spend some more time looking into career prospects out of both schools, because it would suck to make your decision based on the $ only to find out that median means you lose the whole thing.

I agree. If I had to hazard a guess, it's gotta be top 25% given that the scholarships seem to be doled out in that fashion as well. They also send out the award letters with, in effect, a backup scholarship if you can't maintain that GPA.

It's given me pause to say the least

Wait, if you need to maintain top-25%, but then it drops 33%, you still have a bigger scholly than you did at Nova, correct? By how much?

Even if i dropped to the "2ed scholly" I would still have no debt leaving law school. Thank god I worked before going into this process. BTW GO RANGERS!

Does anyone who goes to Villanova and had to take out some loans, regret the decision or looking back would have taken a lower ranked school with no debt?
